Friendly staff member on arrival, seated quickly, sadly menus were dirty/sticky, so I actually didn’t want to handle it/them, and that just set the tone for the visit. The restaurant is not the one on the website, and is sadly looking very tired, the ladies toilets need a lot of attention, broken bin, with tape over a missing piece of plastic, positioned almost on the toilet, which isn’t appealing, as you are about to put your bottom next to the open bin, broken toilet roll dispenser, no front to it, so if you pull too hard it is going to end up on the floor. Where the lino goes up the wall it is peeling away, so not attractive, and needed someone to get on their hands and knees and clean it, or an efficient floor cleaning machine! Black tiles show every mark. This said the ladies toilet was clean, just not nice. Black uniforms are never a good idea, as they look tired, and show every mark, and they make the staff look the same, tired that is, yet they couldn’t be more different, friendly, accommodating and I feel probably under appreciated, and due to the set up, you do not feel obliged to tip, as you pay before eating, the staff must miss out greatly, as there is a high enough turnover of customers, and yes, I know not everyone tips, we like to. Now the most important part of the review, the food, presented well, on clean crockery with clean cutlery, prepared by staff wearing gloves, can’t be faulted. The food is plentiful, and flavoursome, way too many calories but let’s face it, that is why you go there, in our case once every couple of years. This visit, there were items unavailable due to a delivery issue, disappointing but couldn’t be helped, that threw me in to a quandary, and as the menu is so full, and I ended up ordering something I didn’t want, our sundaes arrived a while after the waffles, pancakes and coffee, so the rest of our party had finished eating before we had started, and this was not through lack of staff, as there were 5 or 6 staff around the counter possibly more, and I do appreciate that deliveries have increased pressure on staff too! I also find the withdrawal of cream as an option on everything disappointing! If I order a sundae, I want cream! Also they are always happy to give you a box/cup to bring leftover home in, which is handy! Now, was it an enjoyable visit, not really, I walked out thinking, if I want Creams again, I will order it online, I only live 5 minutes away, or I will treat myself to a takeaway milkshake, as I really don’t want to sit in these unappealing surrounding, even if the staff are lovely, and the food is sinful! I apologise if I ‘waffled’ but it is how I feel! Also, if a competitor moved in, I think a lot of business would be lost, on tired...
Read moreThe atmosphere was poor from the start. Ordered at 20.54hrs for (x3 large oreo thick shakes + cream) takeout, with only one table sat at. 3 deliveroo drivers waiting. Was served immediately and told to take a seat. Staff working at the pace of a sloth (not that of a snail!). After 6 minutes approached the counter and was told immediately that i could not stand there, as this was a staff area. Queried how, when i was stood at the customer side of the counter right next to the ice cream section. And was told i needed to move immediately. Explained was waiting for my order. Staff walked away. Deliveroo driver came and stood next to me. Smiled and sarcastically told him apparently we can't stand here. He in turn retorts with obscenities. Staff intervene. He leaves. Still waiting, and told my order was being prepared. A new staff member prepares milk shakes rather than thick shakes. I advise that these aren't thick, and told to wait, as order not yet complete. Wait. He pours more liquid into the third cup and tries to add whipped cream. I advise i had ordered the thick shakes and these were excessively runny (consistency of a shop bought milkshake from the fridge section). Request a refund. Told no, this is my order. Call upon the shift leader/ manager and advise, he will give me a refund as i am now 26 minutes into waiting and being fobbed off with choco milk as a thick shake. Wait a further 5 minutes for the refund. This isn't the first shoddy experience here. Service is often slow, tables sticky, and often products sold out....
Read moreThis is the second time I have been here, both for special occasions. Convinced my husband to come too, for my grandsons birthday, as I really enjoyed the experience last time.
There were 6 of us in our party 2 children, 4 adults. The experience began with disappointment that you no longer do pancakes, my son, grandson and my husband, both came specifically for the pancakes for a birthday, and while I appreciate menus change, there was no real substitute.
My grandson settled for ice cream, husband had the strawberry and banana waffles and my son went without. When the waffles arrived it was clear they were a generous portion, however they were really disappointing, cold, stodgy and very chewy, the fruit was also far past it's best with the strawberries being tasteless and dried out, they looked wilted and approximately 4 pieces of banana thrown in. I was regretting convincing my husband to come.
I had selected the Pavlova but it was sold out, so I settled for the Lemon Meringue Cheesecake Sundae. This is one of the most expensive deserts on your menu and at £11+ I had this the last time I visited you, but it was less than £10 last time, to say it was disappointing is an understatement. It was a glass of Ice cream with one square of Lemon meringue cheese cake. An incredibly expensive desert for the content and quality. For all of the reasons outlined, we have been left very disappointed by this expensive experience and and I just don't think we would risk the money again...
