We booked a day in advance for a meal for 4 adults ,2 children and a baby. When we got to the pub we were told a mask was needed , which we did not all have , but we had 2 between us, however we were advised we could go in by the pub host with a half nod and shoulder shrug, then advised we need to wear a mask at the bar which we were happy to do with the masks we had. Upon walking in , I was shouted at loudly in front of the whole pub by 2 male bar staff āMask on, mask onā which was not the best as my 6 year old son was next to me and also my wife and 4 month old ,too. We ordered a drink and soon left after telling one of the staff members of experience. Also my friend was shouted regarding the masks and a lady brought the menus and she didnāt welcome us just thrown the me us in the table and very quickly said where the cutlery was. Not a smile to share or an welcoming attitude. This was our last night here in Teighmouth and we felt really unwelcomed. There was hardly any room for the baby buggy as people kept walking past and knocking into it. Luckily the baby was awake. From this all bad experience we managed to get a smile and a lovely member of staff that listen to our feedback, and thanked us to share how we felt. So we left after that without staying...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA Great Local Pub with Character
We were delighted to see a lovely pub on the seafront with an untouched character of history entwined in its foundation.
The interior is a mixed bag of seating arrangements to suit anyone with a wood fire stove which adds to the ambience.
The bar is well stocked with beers, ales and ciders and they have a well stocked thatchers range including blood orange, cloudy lemon, berry, haze and the traditional gold.
The menu offers a good selection of foods including sandwiches, jacket spuds, and the traditional fare.
We just had a couple of sandwiches and were surprised at the amount of fries you got, like a mountain on the plate which is great for sharing. Overall the food was good with an unforgettable garlic sauce, pretty strong but yum.
Staff are friendly and welcoming.
Recommendations
Greatly recommended to enjoy a historic pub, good food and drinks.
Great prices and better than like for like in area.
I would suggest a minor paintjob, ceiling clean and an upgrade on the toilets to bring the pub rating up from 4/5. But great work with a lovely ambience.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreHad a meal several weeks back and it was lovely - returned a few weeks later and really unimpressed. Burger was meant to be a chunky 6 Oz burger but it was so overcooked it shrank to a dense, tough puck that didn't reach the edges of the bun. Fries were terrible, too. Again, overcooked to the point of being hard and no longer fluffy. Meals all came out at different times, with some people almost finished eating by the time the last meal came out,
A lot of our group of 9 were very happy (though some of the portions were a bit small), but my burger sucked. The first burger I had previously was delicious, which made this drop in standards even more egregious, especially paying about £17 for the meal.
We may go back in future, but it's not going to be a regular re-visit like we were hoping.
So, if you go, it's either going to be great or terrible, can't...
