I love coming here to even if just to sit in the car and listen to the ocean. You get incredibly different experiences everytime you come as its a massively tidal estuary so on some days it can be still and the land stretches out for seemingly miles with shallow sandbanks ever changing. On other occasions the sea can be ferociously crashing up against the sea defences with such verosity that you can literally feel the sheer power reverberate throughout your soul. My absolute favourite time to come here is winter time after two or three days of strong easterlies on a high tide as the waves can be spectacular to put it mildly. It can be and is very dangerous in these conditions however so be assured to hold on to children tightly and take extra appropriate care if visiting under these circumstances. You'd be amazed how far over those defences a wave can come after watching it roll gently in from miles away, I've seen many people caught off guard and heard plenty of tragic stories of dog owners trying to save their beloved pets never to return from the waters.
