Very disappointed with tonight’s service. We spent £70 on a takeaway for my son’s birthday. Firstly, the food was delicious. Can’t fault the taste, it was lovely and hot and quick delivery BUT… we ordered a pilau rice, the whole room heard us order it, the restaurant even read it back in the order! But it wasn’t delivered. We rang and the guy at the restaurant was very rude. Claiming we didn’t ordered it. Making comments such as ‘ I’m not psychic ‘. We asked for another rice to be sent to which they agreed but said that we wouldn’t get it for free and did we want to pay cash or card? We never assumed we were getting it free? Again another unnecessary comment. Once the rice was delivered, the delivery driver claimed he had no change for couldn’t give us the £1.90 we was owed? What deliver driver doesn’t carry change? The rice we ordered was pilau and then they sent boiled? So we paid £5 for a rice that wasn’t even correct! The restaurant then rang us to say ‘ are you happy now ? ‘ … such a shame the staff have bad attitudes as we are regulars and now we will never use them again and will not be recommending...

But I wanted to eat in, and was "told" by the waiter that I had asked for a takeaway, but was never asked if it was a sit in or takeaway. I then asked if I could have the meal in. Was charged more but after a hard day £3.00 did not matter.
I had asked for the spicy meal and I know that capsicum is good for you, but I literally choked, because the food was full of chillies. How does spicy (in an Indian restaurant) translate to 8 chillies cut in half and added to your food.
I then called the waiter and explained that this is not what I had requested, and also if I could get the glass of water that I had ordered pre meal.
Well ....long story short.....I will not be returning to this restaurant ever again, based on the food, service and ambiance, and suggest that you take my word for it, unless you want to have a bad experience like I did.
Ps. I am Indian and know bad food...
Read moreLooking around Clacton-on-Sea for a quiet restaurant during peak holiday season wasn't easy until we found the Regency Cottage on a backstreet. From the outside, my wife and I assumed it was a takeaway, but on closer inspection it is a reasonably spacious restaurant with seating available.
Being partially hard of hearing, I cannot cope with excessive noise, so asked the manager for a quiet corner which he was able to provide.
The Indian restaurant has an extensive menu offering a wide variety of dishes for every taste - from the mild to the very hot!
There is also a small selection of English dishes.
Beers, wines, other alcohols, beverages and soft drinks are also available.
As the evening progressed, so the restaurant filled up, showing its popularity. Throughout, service was fast and friendly.
There was no pressure to leave and the cost of dinner for two including wine was just £50.00. A price we'll worth paying for quality food.
Apart from being a restaurant, The Regency Cottage also offers a...
