The Plough Great Clacton — Restaurant in Tendring

Unfortunately this pub is not family friendly. My family and I left abruptly after it was implied to me that breast feeding in this establishment was not appropriate. I later messaged the pub with the following message:

Hi, I just wanted to leave a quick message as my family and I left the pub really abruptly this afternoon, after I was approached by someone about breastfeeding in the pub. This the first time in five years that anyone has spoken to me about breastfeeding, ever. Luckily, I am an experienced mum of two and this will not impact my ability to breast feed my child in the future. Please, please in future consider how difficult breastfeeding is. Next time it could be an inexperienced mother of a young baby who is building her confidence. Conversations like this can be the turning point between continuing to breast feed and not. If you are going to continue to be an open and friendly family space then this is something that is going to happen, either be family friendly or don’t let children in. I personally felt humiliated after the interaction today. I was asked to cover myself, which I was already doing under a baggy jumper. I was told I could sit somewhere else, I should not have to sit in a corner because I have chosen to breastfeed my child.

A very disappointing response, so all in all I guess it fits well with the experience I had there today.

In addition to this I have not rated food because we didn’t have any. And since this happened, the people that we were in the pub with have been barred due to this...

Being honest not stepped foot in here for about 10 years. Used to me my local pub.. ownership changed years ago.. and never stepped foot inside again.. Happened to be collecting from nearby chemist and fancied a drink.. went in to a amazingly friendly bar maid who was an absolute pleasure.. she made us feel so welcome so at home as though we had known her for ages and had been regulars.. Wouldn’t even give 1 star. Tried to come in for a drink with my partner and young baby today. Lady at the bar aggressively told us we couldn’t sit where we were trying to, bearing in mind we didn’t even get a hello as we walked in. Then completely ignored us when we asked where the correct place for us to sit was. We also had our pram with our baby in. We decided to leave as she made us look like right idiots infront of everyone in the pub. Not a pleasant experience. Would recommend ‘The Ship’ over the road if your looking for a pleasant...
