June 25 update We ate here last Saturday evening, it wasn't too busy and we didn't book ahead. I must warn the vegetarians amoung us that I was given lamb samosa in the veggie platter starter. I ate some with the delish curry and the thought it was off, only to see it was meat. I was horrified and informed the server, quietly, when they cleared. I was told told "oh the chef made a mistake" no apology or really that she cared. My main was paneer and lovely but I must say I would not try the platter again, I don't trust it. We told them at the end that although the food was excellent we had this happen, but they didn't seem to think it was an issue. So I'm just warning here, if you need to be 100% sure you are eating vegetarian food you do need to check before you tuck in. I know errors happen and I understand it may be easy to make that mistake in a kitchen but it was the lack of concern that bothered me, they obviously think it's not that big a deal. Still, in my opinion, the best Indian in Romsey so I will return but I will be cautious.
December 24 update I still think this is the best Indian restaurant in Romsey but I wish they would update the veggie heat a bit. The medium is not really medium and lacks some depth of flavour, I've tried many varieties and I love paneer but still a little bland. Tonight I had the super size prawns, 4 of them, but still not the hit I was looking for. Our deserts were very dissapointing, totally frozen and freezer burnt and for my partner not the one we ordered. My advice don't order an ice cream as a very dissapointing end to our meal. Great Irish coffees though and a nice bottle of pino , ladies fingers, aubergine, and brilliant onion bhaji!
October 24 The food last night was absolutely beautiful, the best I've had outside India. If you are looking for romantic this might not be the place as it was very noisy due to Christmas parties and it's a big open place. We sat by a very long table of a works Christmas party and they were not being over loud but because of the room it got a bit much, certainly not the romantic anniversary meal we imagined! Despite the number of diners we were served well and pretty speedy and all the food was so fresh and tasty, only one thing was the sever forgot the chutneys and because they were so busy we couldn't attract anybody to get them for us, but hey, not a huge problem. I would always choose here if in Romsey and looking for Indian food as, in my opinion, it's the best. I wouldn't head here if I was looking for cosy and romantic, but good fresh food then this...
Read morePopped in last night for a meal. We went in as two couple and had prebooked out table for 7:30pm
We ordered poppadoms to start, bhajis next, then had our mains which was a range of different curries including the Natraj tandoori special.
Now the food was absolutely gorgeous, the poppadoms came was a selection of different dips and some onion salad, the bhajis with some fresh salad and our mains were served on hot plates with plenty of rice and nan as our fillers. The food was beautifully cooked and was extremely delicious, I cannot fault the food whatsoever and honestly would recommend anyone in Romsey who hasn't been here to give it a try.
Unfortunately the restaurant was slightly understaffed and that by itself was not the reason for the drop in star but more so because it had taken a little while for our orders to be taken, including our drinks, and even longer for the food to come out. We orders some additional drinks that did not appear whatsoever and had to rerequest the drinks around 20 minutes later.
We do, however, appreciate the staffing issues and the staff were friendly and helpful regardless but just were clearly struggling with the level of customers coming in.
I would recommend this restaurant and will amend my star rating when we visit again and there is a slightly better quality of service. Just be aware of this issue when you...
Read moreAwful from start to finish!!! I ordered in the phone and made both my order and my address very clear. The person on the phone was at first very polite and read everything back to me clearly and confirmed the order. Minimum order was 24£ which I thought was abit expensive but
The order then took nearly two hours to arrive and was basically cold when it got here. As the driver had been given the wrong address from the resturant and struggled a lot with my instructions. The address I gave and thought was noted down was easy to find on google maps or any sat nav.
When the food arrived it was not only cold but the wrong order. My main was wrong and I was given a vegetable passada instead of vegetable tikka sambaar. Usually I wouldn’t mind but the passada was awful and just tasted like coconut powder and milk. The garlic rice was horrible and cooked badly. They clearly tried to fob me off with whatever curry was already cooked and some day old boiled rice fried again but with garlic. I have worked in Indian restaurants before and could’ve found better food on the floor of most of them.
To top it all off when I phoned and asked if my curry could be changed they were very rude and dismissive despite my calm and instead offered me a 10% discount off my next order. AS IF I’D EVER ORDER FROM...
