Worked in Andover for a week. Was originally in the Travelodge 10 mins down the road which was an absolute joke. (See my review) The John Russell fox however was a brilliant hotel. A large modern, comfy room with all amenities and the hotel staff were lovely! Would definitely stay again when I go back to work there. The bar/restaurant however is pretty dire, on the Thursday night we stood at the bar for ten minutes without service so Sat down and ordered on the whetherspoons app, whilst watching all the locals pop in every five minutes to sniff coke in the disabled toilet with the door open for all to see! Food came after long wait and was good. Friday night we put our stuff in the room and went down and got a booth immediately and ordered on the app, we cleared the table and that mess stayed next to us for the remainder of the meal.... 30 minutes later our food turned up but still no drinks even though we had asked 2 members of staff. Food tasted nice if slightly unappealing to look at. Hotel - really good Pub restaurant - poor/average

I'd normally stay in a Travelodge for just one night, but this came up for the same price, so thought I'd give it a go. Upon arrival, staff were very friendly and helpful. Check-in was quick and easy. The room was much better than I expected. Good size, and very clean. Bathroom was very big, and a large shower with gel etc provided. The little extras in the room were a pleasant surprise. As well as tea/coffee, there were 2 bottles of water, biscuits, and mugs that can be used downstairs at the free refill machines.....you can drink as much tea/coffee as you like while staying there. Room was very quiet......never heard any noise at night. I ate downstairs in the restaurant......food and drinks served quickly and with a smile. You can also take food/drinks up to your room if you want. Had breakfast downstairs in the morning, again all good. Checkout was literally drop the key in a box and go. First time I've ever stayed at a Wetherspoons hotel....... definitely won't be the last.

Nipped in for breakfast, which has decent hours from 0700 to 1200, and a good array of available options. Seated on the higher level and able to see the artwork and local history dotted about on the walls. Able to self order from table/app or go to the bar. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food ordered arrived in good time, fresh and hot. The breakfast muffins were great and presumably local produce. Cleanliness however in the eating areas looked overlooked, there was a considerable amount of gunk on closer inspection in the grooves of the table, noticed mid eating. The seats looks tired and stained and could do with a deep clean. A large premises that could do with a good deep professional clean considering the traffic that comes through. Overall a very good facility, with good food and staff, just let down but maybe oversights. Toilet facilities not used as they are top floor and noone wants to walk up there.

So my gripe and the reason for 1 star boils down to the managements customer service.

I have spent £149 for 2 nights stay in the hotel and another £90 on drinks and food.

The hotel - Decent clean room, excellent shower, comfortable bed.

Staff in pub, very good swift service and the food is the best I have had in a Weatherspoons. I had guests and we had a few drinks and ate in the pub. £90 for drinks over the 2 days and food, bargain.

The Bad - I simply wanted a small pot of sour cream with my meal and the server said, not a problem. He came back and said I needed to pay. I said, not a problem, I’m staying in the hotel, showed my key, and said, as my meal is here, if you get me a small pot I will pay for it when I’ve eaten and get another beer. I don’t want my meal getting cold. He said ok. No problem you’d think ? He came back again and said the kitchen insist I pay now. So I had to go to the bar, wait in line and pay for the pot. It was 30pence. Now, I have already paid for the hotel and drinks and food prior, in total I’d spent over £239 yet they wouldn’t serve me 30pence of sour cream until I had paid. I just had to speak to the manager who simply said, sorry but we can’t differentiate between customers even after I explained I showed my hotel key and the kitchen staff knew I had, had a decent food order. Very simply, very, poor management. As I said petty I know but surely they didn’t need me waiting in line to be served “my food getting cold” when they knew I was a guest in the hotel and had other guests and had order a fair bit of food for me and my guests. The chef would also have known my food order alone was a reasonable amount. Good pub, good hotel, management in the kitchen and the pub need to take a course on good customer service and think...

My partner and I have eaten here a few times however the last 2 times we have eaten here we have waited over an hour for our food, than when we received our starter the guacamole was frozen, we than left it on the table to see if we could complain to the waiter however was looked at numerous times however no knowledgement, I even called him over and got no response so had to go to the kitchen and complain, we than received our mains not frozen, finished and everything put our bowl to the side, 25 minutes later still waiting for someone to come over and clear our starters, i than had to call the waiter and say that it’s been over 30 minutes and our bowl is still on the table and no main, he than asked the kitchen how long the wait is and we where told 5 minutes, 20 minutes later another waitress came over and asked if we have had our mains yet which we still replied with no, she then shouts back to the kitchen saying we still haven’t received our mains, to which the kitchen replied with starting it now, my partner has had to go back to the car and put another ticket on and I wouldn’t moan if it was busy however there’s literally 5 tables here and waitresses standing round...

We were visiting a very sick friend in Andover and needed to be central. On first appearance, we thought we'd made a mistake. As we parked in George's Yard, the back of the pub/hotel felt grim. Husband took ages to find someone who could check him in, hence only 4 stars on service. He had to wait until the bar staff could serve him to get key-card and details. But other than that, our stay was really excellent. The security arrangement between pub and hotel rooms means you felt quite separated from the downstairs clientele (room key card opens the 2 doors through Hotel reception on 1st floor). Once you are in the maze of corridors it's whisper quiet. Our standard double room was small but totally adequate for our needs and the bathroom was enormous. Piping hot water with a great shower. Very comfortable bed, spare pillows, tea (even decaf), coffee, hot choc, biccies and free bottles of water. It also felt clean and not above a pub! Didn't hear a thing: no people, no traffic, no sounds. Pleasantly surprised. Breakfast menu choices very impressive and value for money and free coffee appreciated. Will stay again when need to visit friend; this place met...
