We always enjoy coming to the Canterbury Bell. the food is always nice and super friendly staff. On this occasion we were served by a very attentive young man named George. It was fairly quiet when we got there, seated right away. Nice, clean and tidy, good atmosphere, generous portion sizes and a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks (pictured below a "passionless martini" I think it was called I know it was definitely passionless something! The drink certainly wasn't passionless, it was very tasty and difficult not to gulp down.) My only little grumble was on the special menu I ordered the "Tri of lamb" the description was good, if a bit vague; I had no idea it was lamb chops - had I have known I'd of ordered something else. the meal was lovely I just wish it made it clear in the description. 😁😁

So let’s me start with the positive: Hotel Room (106) Clean, spacious, good desk space and decent size tv. Rooms are air conditioned which is a bonus when we stayed and room had a comfortable bed Now the negatives: Check in: Rude girl behind bar area directed me to the reception desk (which is at the back of the restaurant) and I was told to wait for someone called ‘James’ Desk was not occupied so had to wait. Several team members walked past me without so much as hi, hello or someone will be with you soon. Finally acknowledged by a lady who really looked as she was having a bad day, another team member turned up and asked her where ‘James’ was, her reply: ‘I don’t know, he’s probably on his lazy a%se somewhere’ not really what I, as the customer wanted to hear, especially as I still hadn’t been checked in at this point! Dinner: Booked a table online for 8pm, turned up just before, waited at the designated area, 3, 4 minutes passed, again several team members walked right by us without so much as a hello, hi, are you waiting etc.( the place was hardly packed out) We then took the decision to seat ourselves, when I approached the male server, he asked if we had waited at reception and I said no as no one had approached us to offer help. His response ‘Only the Manager shows you to your seats’ so, okay, if indeed the Manager holds the right to seat people, surely it doesn’t stop the team members acknowledging anyone waiting to be seated? Apparently not, well not here anyway! Next we ordered, 2 drinks and 2 mains, the hunters chicken, should come with a trades description act, as nothing had hunted this chicken I can assure you!! As tables were being cleared right near us, more chat from team members, regarding swapping shifts etc. Again people have to talk I appreciate this, but I don’t want to hear about team members rota issues! £45.00 down and if we had been closer to home or familiar with the area , I would have left. Nice hotel, shockingly rude team that lack basic customer service, an invisible Manager, a team that are in apparent need of leadership or roles outside of hospitality and over priced lack lustre food! Listen up Marstons, Wetherspoon’s do it better, cheaper and offer more consistent customer service!!

This restaurant is great for families and a personal favourite for my family. We recently visited and had a meal to celebrate my Grandpa's 91st birthday, and there was 4 generation of our family celebrating with him, from his daughter ((my mum) myself his granddaughter, my son and daughter his great grandchildren and my daughter's little girl who is his great great granddaughter. The Canterbury Bell is all on the same level including the toilets and the main entrance is safe for a car to stop right outside and drop off and collect visitors, perfect for my Grandpa. Also the restaurant has outside and inside play areas to keep the kids occupied what ever the weather. The food is good and fair priced and service is excellent. Cosy family atmosphere.

Booked a table for 2 online for 8:15 pm on saturday evening 30/ 07/ 2022 and in comments/ requests I asked for table to be next to a window as partner has hot flushes,we arrived at 8pm and was greeted and immediately seated in middle of restaurant not next to a window as requested. The young lady that served us all evening was great absolutely first class. We had a four course meal consisting of starter, mains and desert followed by coffees good food and service. They young lady deserved the tip which i gave ! she was polite and very helpful and attentive also very professional. My only concern was the fact, we was not sat by an opening window as requested in the online booking for my partners comfort !.

Always my first choice of restaurant! Absolutely adore this place, the staff are always so warming and friendly, from the front door and all the way throughout the restaurant, from ordering and receiving food you’ll feel taken care of. I’m a vegetarian and always get the cauliflower buffalo wings on the feel good salad! Also love the crispy battered mushrooms with garlic dip. Can’t wait to come back again soon, I’m hoping to come here on Xmas eve if I can get it booked off work!
