Something has gone very wrong here.
I used to look forward to my train journeys, popping into the cafe at Margate Station to get supplies for my trip. The coffee was decent for a train station cafe, the sandwiches and paninis were generously filled, the sausage rolls were naughty but tasty (think a sexier version of Greggs - if that's a thing!), and there was a warm and friendly atmosphere. You could tell a lot of love went into the food and the space. All at a really fair price - I was always really proud it hadn't been Pumpkined like the rest of the station caffs.
Sadly, it's a very different place now. The coffees are no longer drinkable (scalding hot dirty dishwater is being nice), the paninis are paltry affairs (slithers of bacon and barely a whiff of brie), and to top it all I'm pretty sure the prices have gone up too.
It's so sad. Even the staff look a bit depressed! I think some of the old staff still work there, at least I hope they do as I think they're the café's only saving grace.
They had a warm and cosy vibe before, now it's just another cafe trying to milk the customer when they have no...
Read moreWe got the smoothies. Options looked great but then they added apple juice so they all tasted like apple juice regardless. Makes no sense: if you ask for banana strawberry it should taste like banana strawberry, not like a Tesco cheap apple juice with pink colour. Also it was very liquid and had the consistency of a juice not a smoothie, which is thick and creamy. I make smoothies at home and add ice and milk, not strong juice that modifies the taste. This must have been the worst cheapest smoothie I ever had. Ended up trashing it. Finally it’s served in plastic with a plastic lid though the staff was happy to meet our request to serve it in a paper cup instead. Shops need to...
Read moreLovely cafe - next door to the Premier Inn which was ideal for grabbing some snacks/ breakfast. Fairly priced items & definitely value for money, considering it is located in a train station. They’d got a good choice of food as well, lovely cobs with generous fillings (which were perfect for grabbing, ready for eating on the train). Friendly staff & atmosphere - couldn’t ask for much better. Will definitely be back when we’re next in Margate - thank you!
Loved the Panda on the hot chocolate! Simple touch but shows the owners go that extra mile to make...
