Olympia Café, Margate — Where Hospitality Goes to Die.
Visited today at 12pm, and honestly, I wish I hadn’t bothered.
The woman behind the counter — older, short light hair, expression like she’d rather be anywhere else — greeted us with all the warmth of a parking ticket. We were friendly, polite, even patient… but she took our order like it personally offended her that we existed.
When my friend’s breakfast arrived, it was completely wrong. We had clearly said no tomatoes or beans, yet the plate came swimming in tinned tomato juice. The whole breakfast was basically drowned. When I pointed this out, the woman actually said, “Well, are you allergic to it then?”
Sorry — since when do you have to risk anaphylaxis to get your order right?
I calmly explained that we just wanted what we’d asked (and paid) for. She snatched the plate back, clearly irritated, and stomped off. My friend then asked if — since her meal had been messed up and a fried slice hadn’t even been included — they could swap it for a piece of buttered bread instead. The reply? “Well, you didn’t order that, did you?”
No, but we did order the food correctly in the first place. Maybe start there.
The overall experience was dripping with attitude. Not a smile, not a hint of care — just eye rolls, sighs, and the sort of customer service that makes you question every life choice that led you there.
And for £54 for four people? You’d expect, at minimum, clean cups (ours were chipped), edible food (it wasn’t), and a waitress who doesn’t act like she’s doing community service. Instead, we got tinned tomatoes, sarcasm, and a side order of pure contempt.
Honestly, Olympia Café should rebrand as The Pensioner’s Attitude Retreat. Because if you enjoy overpaying for hostility served lukewarm, you’ll love it here.
Would not recommend. Would not return. Not even for coffee — which, by the way, tasted...

Definitely my go to food place when I occasionally return to the area

Good portions for the hungry... Well cooked and served by friendly staff. Couldn't have asked for more...
Read moreI was surprised to see it open so early which was great. A simple request for a tea snd bacon sandwich. Then changed it to toasted was no trouble. Would recommend as the sandwich was amazing and the tea perfect. After a Two hour drive was a perfect option. Would have loved to have tried the full breakfast. Next time.. Atmosphere wasn't fair to judge as it was very early. The decoration is hilarious and typical of a seaside resort. Although I'm sure most wouldn't know who the people are on...
