Sunday week at Sargasso.. I cannot tell how wonderful our meal was.. It was exceptionally tasty.
The staff were fabulous the chefs were so friendly they have time for you, if you ask they willĀ come and tell all about the dishes and how they made them .. The wine was so very delicious..
This was their last Sunday menu of the season they are nowĀ presenting summer menu(I can't wait to experience it).Ā We were lucky they fitted us in and then placed us on table, we are also more than happy to sit at counter watching all the action and chatting away to staff too.. I haven't had a bad meal yet.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI usually prefer leaving positive reviews, but my visit to Sargasso yesterday left me disappointed. I hope my experience can be helpful for those considering this restaurant.
For out-of-town visitors, especially from places like London, Sargasso may not be the best choice. In comparison to the myriad of small plates restaurants in London, Sargasso falls short. Despite the rave reviews I heard prior to booking, the menu struck me as ārecession chic.ā It featured an abundance of tinned fish, cold sourdough bread, and tinned beans, including a panisse that was so flavorless it seemed like mashed chickpeas straight from the can. Given the restaurantās excellent location, I had hoped for fresher seafood options rather than can core.
While the staff were friendly, the service was lacking. We had to repeat our requests multiple times, as we were often forgotten. For instance, we waited 15 minutes for bread, only to receive it immediately after checking in. We also had to ask for the bill more than once after our table was cleared. Although I understand that restaurants can get busy, this was at 4pm when the restaurant was not full.
If you're looking for something more unique to Margate or better value for money, Iād suggest exploring other options. Nothing beats fish and chips on the beach!
For locals or anyone not that into food, Sargasso might be a decent spot to treat yourself if you enjoy small plates and arenāt concerned about value.
Last thing, the bathroom option was traumatizingly disgusting when I went. Far below the standard expected for a restaurant aiming for this caliber.
Again, I hate leaving this review but I wish someone said any of this before I dropped quite a bit of hard...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe visited Sargasso for a birthday supper after walking here from Ramsgate on a sunny day. So we were all rather looking forward to a filling meal and a nice, cold glass of wine. In short we were not disappointed as the food here is top-notch and we ordered pretty much everything on the menu.
Saying that the menu is not extensive and you're pretty much out of luck if you don't like fish. For example we worked our way through all of these starters: Salted almonds, Gordal olives, Sourdough & salted butter, Padron peppers & boquerones, Chorizo picante and Fried courgette & Cantabrian anchovy.
These were all good but the fried courgette and the fresh sourdough slices were top-notch. Then we moved onto the main courses of Chickpeas, spinach & paprika, Monks beard, capers & lemon and the Fried squid sandwich along with both of the fish specials. These were all really excellent yet the fish was notably outstanding being both fresh and perfectly cooked.
Finally we launched into all of the desserts because they each sounded great: Panna cotta, poached rhubarb & amaretti, Dark chocolate, olive oil, smoked chilli and Manchego, membrillo & oat cakes. Personally I like a cheese course yet still the dark chocolate pudding is outstanding.
All in all we enjoyed an excellent evening at Sargasso. It wasn't a cheap experience of course but the quality of the food here is high and the wine list attractive. It was a little chilly sitting outside, despite the heaters, but no more than we could endure. Well worth a visit then if you're a...
