The Mermaid — Restaurant in Thanet

Me and my husband we went to the beach in broadstairs and before we went back to the train station for go back to the hotel we was staying in margate we stop to eat fish and chips in this place,OMG the fish was horrible,didn't have any taste infact i left in my plate most of my lunch,i try to put lots of salt and mayo to give it a bit of taste(but even that didn't give it any type of flavour)😤i eat few chips just because i was hungry but even those wasn't good,they was white,didn't have any crisps on it(fish was the same)was soggy HORRIBLE!!!we spend nearly £29.00 for twice fish and chips and 1 can of coke and 1 beer,we leave most of ours food in the plate coz was horrible,like i said didn't have any test what so ever,the place didn't have any air condition and 3 days ago was 32 degrees🥵 we never go back in this place (THE MERMAID IN BROADSTAIRS) WAS SO DISAPPOINTED for me and my husband,so we DON'T RECOMMEND TO ANYONE TO GO THERE if it was possible we did give(-5)stars rates this is how much disappointed we was and we are about the place...we hope this honest comment gonna be helpful to people,coz if people did write HONEST COMMENTS for sure we didn't went to spend £29.00 for a horrible lunch....in margate are a very good fish n chips place for the same price and after eat it you gonna go away very satisfied..unfortunately we didn't toke it any food pictures,we did take few pictures of the place before we...

I visited The Mermaid on Monday evening (20.10.25) with my teen boys, we were soaking wet and miserable but the establishment was cosy and the cook gave a warm welcome. The server was very friendly and amicable too. Myself and one son ordered cod and chips, my other son haddock and chips; the haddock was of a very generous size, I was slightly jealous when I received the much smaller cod of the two ordered, I was very hungry you see. Service was quick but I drop a star based on pricing, as we only had cans of Fanta with our meal, it came to £54.75 which I thought quite steep. The following Tuesday night we ate at The Forno Lounge, for £57.55 we had fabulous meals with drinks that included two of the fancy milkshakes and a glass of wine, so anyone can see where the better value for money is. The reason I’m giving The Mermaid a one star review is that half way through my food I discovered a black curly strand of hair in my haddock and chips. When I raised this with the waitress, she took this to the chef who simply denied it being any of there hairs, despite him having black curly hair and did not wear a hair net (or gloves) when making my food. The irony of this is I was wearing a scarf which fully covered my hair, so it couldn’t be mine! There was no apology from the chef, no compensation or refund or anything at all. £12.50 for a meal with the chefs hair in it!!! Never left a bad review in my life till this point.
