We have been regulars at The Swan for the past 20 years, and it has always been a favourite place of ours to go to eat and drink. On Saturday, we decided to take our friends who have never been before for a meal. The whole evening from start to finish was an absolute shambles. We booked a table in the restaurant close to the toilets as one of our guests has some health problems making walking difficult. Upon arriving, we were met at the bar by a waiter who tried to seat us in the bar area, I explained we had booked a table in the restaurant and he then escorted us to our table. We followed him, but he walked off, leaving us stood in the restaurant, not knowing which table was ours. I had to go and find another waiter to tell us where our table was. Once seated, a waiter came with our drinks. He dropped a full bottle and ice on my 6 month baby bump, absolutely soaking my hair, clothes, and feet. I left the table to go to the toilets to dry off. He didn't so much as apologise, he just mumbled and walked off, leaving our guests shocked. We ordered our starter's, and they were nice, apart from the prawn dish, which consisted of 4 prawns in a dish with nothing else for just under £8! Then the staff seated a very drunk party of 6 people who were not eating in the restaurant next to our table. They were shouting and spilling drinks everywhere. We asked to be moved further away as we couldn't hear each other talking over the noise. Once moved, we waited 90 minutes for our mains to come out. I had to find a staff member to ask how much longer our food would take. Once our food came out, one of our guests got something he didn't order, my food was stone cold, and another guests brisket was so tough it was difficult to cut into. We all ended up eating at different times as staff tried to sort it out. We intended to have desserts too, but after such a horrible evening, we couldn't wait to get out of there. The tall male waiter with short curly hair was rude and obnoxious and made us all feel really unwelcome. The manager ended up taking 50% off our bill and apologising, which was good of her, but unfortunately, we will never go back to The Swan after that. It's such a massive shame as it used to be one of the best places in Ironbridge for food and drinks. Now, it's one...
Read moreGood points; the room was clean (you can forgive a lot if this is so) and the bed is potentially very comfortable.||Bad points; everything else. I stayed in room number 4 at The Swan. This room is an exercise in how much money you can earn from how little space. The room was very small and very poorly equipped with very basic fixtures and furniture and the bathroom was so small as to be uncomfortable. No storage space (this had clearly been in position at one point in the form of a towel rail over the radiator and some shelving near the sink but had been removed because of space limitations I'm guessing, and as was suggested by damage to the basin) and with the smallest possible shower tray. The shower is electric and barely adequate.||The bed was surprisingly comfortable and would have been more so if sheets that were actually big enough used to cover it. The lower sheet could not be tucked under the mattress of the very small double bed (more a single and a half, perhaps suitable for Snow White and one dwarf) and so kept pulling away and bunching up. The final straw was the noise I heard from the bathroom at 10.30pm on day two whilst I was in bed. I thought 'old plumbing' but when I got up in the morning the toilet was full of water, used paper and muck, and therefore unusable. So inadequate waste pipes, too. ||Breakfast should have been at the Taphouse about 100m down the road. I did not eat breakfast for a couple of reasons, these being that I was not hungry in the morning and the quality of the room suggested the quality of the breakfast may also be low.||The room is cheap at £55 B & B but I wouldn't stay again if they paid me. ||This is not an hotel at which the owners care at all about guest comfort.||Spend a few quid extra and stay somewhere else is my...
Read moreWe booked the hotel for a two night stay, for the location and car parking. The only positive was the car parking space. On arrival to the pub your heart sinks at the state of the car park, you are greeted with old fridges and old rotten mattresses, which when looked online have been there for over 8 months. Check in - big announcement breakfast is not served at property but the pub three doors away - not mentioned on booking site or their own website. Then you get to walk through the back of hotel up very loose and unsafe stairs, carpet unclean, poor decoration. You think this can not get any worse unfortunately it does. We booked a family room as only one available room 8 which is at the back of hotel. We thought ok it is only for a couple of nights and we would be out most of the day. The room - bathroom - both taps in bathroom leaked and there was brown water staining on sink which we cleaned, large crack in sink, dirty floor in bathroom, advertised as having a shower which it did have a shower head connected to the bath, but not shower holder or curtain so if you used it it would wet the bathroom floor. Bedroom only one bedside lamp, no mattress protector, duvet heavy and old, no black out blinds the room does not have windows only ceiling lights so at 4.30am we where both awake. Dirty stain on walls, didn’t use kettle as thick dust and water left in kettle so wasn’t brave enough to look, just wanted to get out and go home. Spoke to a member of staff who said he was a representative of the company and would take concerns on board, but quite honestly looking at reviews nothing is changing, such a shame as the pub up the road which is owned by the same company/person is in a different league. Do not stay here, save your money and go...
