Bar Etna – A Volcano of Love, Flavor, and Soul
During a family holiday, we thought we were just going out for dinner. We had no idea we were about to experience something unforgettable — something that would stay in our hearts forever.
Bar Etna is not just a restaurant. It’s an explosion of Sicily — alive, passionate, and full of soul.
As a Sicilian who has lived in London for ten years, I often long for the warmth, the flavors, and the magic of home. The moment I stepped into Bar Etna with my husband and our daughters, it all came flooding back. I felt wrapped in the embrace of my island.
We had dinner like royalty — every dish was a celebration of Sicilian tradition, cooked with heart, flavor, and incredible care. The food was beyond delicious, and the Sicilian wine? Simply divine — intense, sunny, unforgettable.
And then there’s Chiara and Carmelo.
Words can’t do them justice. They are the true soul of this place. Explosive, joyful, full of energy and love — just like their volcano, Etna. Their presence lights up the room. Their welcome was not just warm — it was emotional. They made us feel not like customers, but like long-lost family coming home.
That dinner wasn’t just a meal — it was a return to who I am. A moment of deep connection with my roots, my land, my memories.
There is no restaurant more authentic than Bar Etna in all of Manchester. None. It’s not just food — it’s Sicily in its purest, most heartfelt form.
Thank you, Chiara and Carmelo. You gave us so much more than dinner. You...
Read moreThis is a tough review for me to post, why? Because I don't want to complain about this lovely venue and it was only a couple of weeks ago when my wife gave 5 stars across the board. However, here we go:
We've called in to Bar Etna twice this week, firstly on Tuesday when they were closed, and I'm not being critical of that, everybody needs time off and I should have checked first.
Second visit though (Thursday afternoon), I felt the service could have been a lot better. I parked up, my wife went in to order a couple of their outstanding sandwiches and the place was very busy, a member of staff explained it was because of a private function. So my wife said we didn't want to dine in, just a take-out. To which she was told the kitchen and staff were working flat out. The young lady was very pleasant but there was no encouragement to wait and so my wife left.
Now to me, if a business can't look after a small order like a couple of sandwiches to what could be regular customers (or new customers who could become regulars), there is something not quite right.
We will be back next week and hopefully this time we'll get...
Read moreSuch a great authentic spot of Italy in the heart of Altrincham! Really loved the fact that Italian radio was playing in the background, deli products (cheese/ cold meats) were available to buy, and we could again taste those very traditional pastries you can only eat in Italy. In our case, we had the 'cornetto' ( croissant ) and the bombolone (doughnut), plus Lavazza hot drinks. Carmelo (the owner) inserts the filling of your choice right at the point of taking the pastries to your table, and those fillings are to die for. The croissant was crunchy on the outside and fluffy and light in the inside, nothing like the greasy bundles of 'glued' layers you get elsewhere. This is, in truth, an Italian family restaurant, and lunch/ dinner is served daily (except for Tuesdays) until 10 pm, and due to the cozyness of the place, reserve a table if you can! There is a children's play area for the little ones, and cocktails/ wine for the not so little ones. I'm going to go for the...
