Porta Tapas Bar — Restaurant in Trafford

Felt really let down by our last experience at your restaurant. We have visited before and even traveled to Altrincham just to dine here.

Initially, the experience was good; we were offered water, the specials were read to us, and our drink and food orders were taken.

However, things quickly went downhill. There were many staff members standing around talking, and no one came over to our table unless absolutely necessary. The food was disappointing—the squid was extremely salty, the chorizo stew was terrible (we didn't eat it), and the meatballs were also inedible. When I raised my concerns, the response was simply that we wouldn’t be charged for those dishes, without any further conversation or follow-up.

We came for a meal, not to receive a free meal. A little personal touch and some communication when things go wrong would have been appreciated. Additionally, one of our dishes was missing, and when we asked for the bill, we noticed a service charge was added. I would usually not mind paying this, but I felt it wasn't deserved this time because no one seemed to care about our complaints or make an effort to improve our experience. As a restaurant, I believe this approach would be beneficial.

Porta has a wide selection of traditional Spanish tapas dishes with some specials occasionally fusioned along side. The drinks are traditional and modern, the atmosphere at most, early on is nice and relaxed, once busy it does seem to be very hectic but that’s surely the sign of a good place to eat drink and socialise. Our recommendation is to head out early after opening times, for a relaxed early lunch of tea and if your after starting or finishing the night off well it’s an amazing place to head too. No reservations though, so it’s just a show up and take a chance, although they do offer a call back service once a table for your requirements becomes free! Fully AC for inside dining, great outdoor covered space at the front also. Very good Tapas experience. Well sourced ingredients make this a great choice for food. It's certainly busy in the evening but got a table walking in after a 30 min wait. The olives on offer are certainly worth your time (and you can buy tins to take back). Little tables are great for a romantic atmosphere (even given the number of people). The food has some great choices (pork cheek) and the king prawns. Some food is just passable (the patatas bravas sadly). The gin and tonic was great, though I found the red wines on offer to be quite disappointing.
