The staff at the King's Arms were lovely and very accommodating, the location is convenient and the actual pub was well laid out.
Unfortunately the food was a massive let down. We got roast dinners but apart from the potatoes nothing was actually roasted. The seasonal veg was luke warm boiled/bagged frozen carrots and broccoli with Bisto gravy and mysteriously two single peas? The nut roast had a good taste, but it's pastey texture made it feel like eating undercooked stuffing. The roast potatoes and the cabbage were good. We were told we could have extra roast potatoes instead of the Yorkshire puddings and mashed potato (both of which were not vegan), but they came with only 3 roast potatoes (which was apparently correct) and a couple came with Yorkshire puddings anyway. We didn't send them back because of food waste. I feel sorry for the people who don't get extra roast potatoes - how many do they get? Maybe 1 or 2?
My friend ordered a flat white. But what arrived was a giant milky latte. It was also lumpy which was disconcerting.
I have some suggestions:
. The nut roast was tiny compared to my friends chicken. Change the size and shape of it so it doesn't look like a strip of paste and roast it for a bit longer so it doesn't taste like one. Or cover it in pastry! That would be delicious and would make it look a lot more appealing and worth the money.
. More roast potatoes!
. Roast your carrots.
. Make your own gravey with stock and flour.
. Make sure you remove stray peas. It's a dead giveaway that you used a packet of frozen/bagged carrots and peas.
. Reduce the price of vegan Sunday lunches if they can't have 2 of the things on the ingredients.
. Increase the size of the nut roast so it's comparable to the size of the meat on the other nut roasts.
. Google what different types of...
Read moreWas excited to stay here because of the good review but I must say this is probably the worst rest I’ve had since we’ve been in this country for almost a month now. The room was nice with great accommodations but it’s right on the main road so it’s loud, cars, honking horns, people yelling, it’s miserable if you are trying to sleep. They have literally been installing scaffolding since 7am this morning, banging around, drilling, it’s been discouraging. The beds are not very comfortable, think they are old and we’ve been here for 4 nights and our backs are aching, it’s been hot, no fan has been offered, open the windows only to allow more annoying sounds in, it’s been rough. I will say the staff has been incredible, Mia at the bar has been super cool and accommodating and the rest of the staff is excellent, kind, and sweet people. The food is good but they don’t serve breakfast during the week which is also inconvenient. The only reason I’m giving the Kings Arms 3 stars is for the people that work here, outside of them I felt like I’ve been resting in the Commoners Arms and haven’t been able to sleep properly one night here, such a shame, great potential, great people, but very bad resting...
Read moreHad an enjoyable experience at this pub, but a couple of months after our visit we were charged with a £180 fine for parking in the customer car park. When asked, the manager told us they would clear the charge for us but ultimately did not and said they couldn’t help us. We were forced to pay this amount simply for using a car park as customers. Evidently, there is a tiny sign outside telling customers to register their number plate if you are parking there but we were not prompted by any member of staff to do so. It is completely unacceptable and unheard of to even have to look for a sign when parking as a customer at an establishment. The pub takes a percentage of this parking charge and so clearly enjoys causing their customers a stressful experience for the sake of a bit of extra money (on top of our £250 bill we paid that day). Will never be visiting this pub again - completely incompetent management and ridiculous parking...
