For a bit of context, I live in London and am spoilt for choice with the best of the best coffee shops and roasteries there are, once you've been introduced to the world of good coffee you will never step foot into a Starbucks or Pret again nor would you dare mention the C word ''Costa'' when deciding on where to get a coffee from. So as I found myself Stranded in Stansted Mountfitchet on a brisk autumn Saturday afternoon, in need of a properly good coffee I reluctantly searched on google for 'coffee shops near me' assuming all I'd be recommended with is your standard small town pony coffee shop that over heat your coffee or knock you up a flat white in a cup the size of a pint glass, I was very quickly put in my place as I stumbled across Uppers Coffee.
This is an establishment that knows how to make a bloody handsome coffee, using coffee beans from one of London's best and most respected coffee roasters Ozone. I ordered a flat white that was presented beautifully in a manner that would give Alan Preston a run for his money. I paired my flat white with one of the best almond croissants I've ever had, it was so good that it spurred me on to order the orange and cinnamon bun with custard cream centre (would 110% recommend to a friend). I could go on all day about the extremely high standard and quality of the produce at this place, but I must also be fair and mention the cons… The only con I will point out is that there isn’t an Uppers in every small town or big city.
I would also like to mention the master minds behind this newfound institution, Matt and Sarah a couple that quite clearly have put a lot of care and love into Uppers and is evidently shown with incredibly designed interior to the coffee shop. It is an understatement to say that this is one of the best coffee shops that I’ve ever had the pleasure to dine in. Also, special shout out to Denzel the friendly chow chow dog that gently guards the side counter and adds to the charm of this elegant little coffee shop.
So, if youre a person like me that often finds themselves stranded in small towns yearning for a properly well-made cup of coffee with the best pastries, brownies, cakes and an alluring coffee shop atmosphere that is dog friendly, make sure to get stranded in Stansted Mountfitchet and get yourself to Uppers Coffee, you will not regret your decision. I would upload pics but I was enjoying the moment too much...
Read moreHorrible, horrible place. Does not accept cash, does not say anywhere that they don't, apart from a 1 inch sign in between stuff littering the counter. Well, I had a look at your website, and your terms and conditions should state you don't accept cash - BY LAW. Guess what, no terms and conditions on that website at all. I rate this place horrible because the staff's attitude was horrendous in my opinion and the coffee was absolutely vile. Having made the mistake of agreeing to accept my friend's offer to pay by card for that vile coffee which was undrinkable, we moved over to Yeomans just opposite and absolutely fell in love with the service, food and drink. We were greeted and looked after and felt that these people cared even for the little details - like sprinkling real chocolate flakes on your cappuccino. Everything they brought to the table was so delicious! No wonder the place was packed, while yours was empty. Perhaps it's an attitude problem and you believe you can have your cake and eat it, perhaps you feel that you can order people about and they'll still pay you, in your preferred payment method of course. Perhaps you believe hostility is a winning business strategy. But customers are voting with their feet, and last time I checked they were...
Read moreThe other day we enjoyed lovely coffee with my dear husband: I was very glad to see an improvement after my initial visit a few months ago, such as live plants on the outside tables, which makes the place more inviting and pleasant, and encourage to spend more time - and money! - there. Hosts listen to your desires as how you like your coffee and the way you wish it served, and endeavour to please. The banana bread was delicious! We’ll definitely be back again when out and about the village. Come everyone and check this coffee shop out - stylish interior, welcoming hosts, quality coffee - it’s a...
