Such a shame, had such promise - community pub with lovely garden. 4 year old and 2/3 year old playing with a ball in the garden and told off by miserable older man who was management. There was a sign that said âno ball gamesâ but we couldnât see it from where we were sitting. He didnât approach us as parents (who were sat right next to the children who were just rolling a ball to each other). Just went straight up to the children and told them off. 4 year old was hysterical and sobbing at being approached inappropriately by total stranger. When I politely spoke to him to say how much my child was upset he told me âit wasnât a crèche and it was my job to look after my childâ. We were sat right next to them, just didnât see the sign. Had he approached us and politely pointed out the sign we would have of course put the ball away. We were totally dumbfounded by his rude and inappropriate behaviour and having spoken to the other customers in the garden at the time, he seems fairly renowned for his grumpiness and moods! Evident from other reviews citing rudeness! Wonât be...
Read moreFully deserving of a 5đ review. Lovely staff (Margaret and Amy ? on the day) super friendly local customers and great quality real ale / cider (own cider produced on the premises). Pub has lots of interesting pictures / items etc relating to the closed railway station and community take over - pub is owned by local shareholders. Can't fault the place - best pub in Saffron Walden. Nice garden too, still being developed but great as it is đ. Loved my visit thank you staff and the customers I chatted...

The outdoor space was amazing and it really caught the sun in the garden in the late afternoon/evening. We'll definitely be back regularly over the coming weeks,...
