First time here. Food although slow (staff problem) was fantastic. Best chips in the world!! Or rather, wedges? Don’t know what they do but everything about their chips were out of this world! And… I don’t like chips. Sandwiches and white baits were good.
Drinks were ok but I only had fizzy one and it didn’t taste like it was watered down too much.
The atmosphere is where I’m marking them down on.
Toilets: need refurb and deep clean Inside the pub: the same (inside is quite small) The front: the same The back: they spent money creating 2 lanes for petangue which is unique and cute. There’s always a kids playing area. It’s a family friendly place.
There’s a permanent tent which is cute. And The Shed. Trying to bring a tropical Caribbean holiday feel to it in the middle of a village in Essex. Must have worked well when it was new. Now it’s a bit shabby. If it’s well maintained…. the chic bit comes in. They still have a giant toy soldier and some Christmas garland around - showing a slight careless management of the place as well.
Now I don’t know what’s going on as this looks like a family-run pub, perhaps they’re having hardship which might lead to a neglected look to the place. This makes me feel a bit guilty not giving it a glowing review because it’s hard to run a pub. However, I need to review honestly. First of all- sort the toilet out.
Another point about atmosphere - this is a very local pub. You wouldn’t stumble upon this if you don’t live around here. And the pub goers are a reflection of the people who live around here. There’s only one demographic here. The pub lady was super friendly with regulars by the looks of it and not too bothered with others. Maybe she was busy. The pub man forgot our order but also maybe he was knackered.
Should I visit again? Only...
Read moreThis is my first visit as it was highly recommended by the family! We had Sunday Roast (which you have three options by the way; plenty of veg and a gravy on the side to top up what's on your plate) and the mind-blowing (I say this coz look at the portion!) BBQ ribs. Honestly, the food was amazing! You can tell how fresh the ingredients were. Everything is also reasonably priced so enjoy to your heart's content! Love the environment. Massive garden space for when the weather brightens up. Jukebox which was in perfect condition. Spotless! Did I ever mention how the ladies can make you feel so welcome the moment you open those doors? Perfect food (hats off to the chef), perfect service and, perfect environment! Guess I'll be...
Read moreThe Rose and Crown is a real find and a perfect example of a traditional country pub. The atmosphere is wonderfully authentic and has a fantastic, friendly feel as soon as you walk in. The staff were excellent throughout, providing service that couldn't be faulted and adding to the warm welcome. The menu is extensive and every dish that came out of the kitchen was of excellent quality. We decided on the sharing ploughman's board with a side of home-cooked chips, and it was the perfect choice. The portion was generous and more than ample for two, and the chips tasted absolutely amazing. This was my first visit to The Rose and Crown, but it certainly won't be my last. I will definitely be returning to this...
