Booked to go for a Mothers Day meal with my dad and my toddler, our server was wonderful and very friendly, interacted with my son and was happy to get us the kids menu and source some crayons!
Iām not sure if I went on a bad day or got unlucky, but the Sunday roast was genuinely the worst I have ever had, I cut open a potato and oil pooled onto my plate from the inside which I have honestly never seen before, the carrot & parsnip werenāt very cooked & the cabbage as well, the chicken was very oily too and I couldnāt bring myself to eat it after eating some of the veg.
Was a shame because the photos of other Sunday meals Ive seen on others reviews look lovely in comparison, the gravy was very watery and had all oil bubbles in it after I cut into the potato which really put me off.
The servers were great though, I was brought my apple crumble and it had a layer of custard over the top, I mentioned to the server that I hadnāt realised it came with custard and he very happily swapped it for one with ice cream instead which was lovely.
Both me and my dad ordered off the Ā£21 set menu but my father was charged full price for the 3 courses, not sure if it was a mums only deal, but this wasn't specified on the website or the menu unless in small print, and the server didnāt mention that he wouldnāt qualify when he read off the same menu I did if that was the case.
Overall I did feel very let down today unfortunately - I do think I went on a bad day or I got unlucky as the general reviews seem very positive. It wasnāt particularly busy, but we did go at 12:30pm and it seemed to pick up a bit as we were leaving
My son enjoyed his meal though, the chips were lovely and the chicken dippers were nice and crispy.
As I said staff did a wonderful job. Particularly our main server who my son took a liking to immediately! He was very happy to have a high five as he left. But the food...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIād like to be fair and say that two members of staff were fine. Thumbs up for them. However, because my son was wearing a facemask, though it was clear he was not underage he was asked to remove it. Sorted, it proved he was old enough. However, I did not expect to hear a member of staff berating my son for choosing to wear a face mask! He was of the opinion that people who died of Covid, only did because they had something else wrong with them. E.G. cancer. I am an extremely fit person, a keen runner, swimmer and dog walker, no underlying illness and I feel lucky to have survived Covid. I literally could not breathe! Itās terrifying! My son is therefore very wary of the virus. My daughter, who was also present, is a student nurse in Wales. She has studied there throughout the pandemic. Itās not been pretty for her, so she is equally upset. We came to Wales to settle my son in to his new flat and meet up with my daughter. It was very enjoyable, but tiring. We just wanted a pub that gave us a warm welcome and a good meal. Now Iām on to the food. The burger was average. Chicken portion good, but took me ages to locate the bacon. Proper stingy on the chips and coleslaw. Can you get a smaller bowl? How the hell they made garlic bread, Iāll never know, but donāt shortcut on garlic granules, people can tell. My daughter dared to ask for a bun instead of fries for her dish. The look! Unbelievable! My son had to leave the rest of his meal, because he hadnāt been given his mango chutney and it was too dry for him. By this time, we were too scared to ask. Safe to say we wonāt be visiting a Brains pub ever again. We enjoyed our day because we were together. You could have...
Ā Ā Ā Read morei booked for a festive menu for myself and my "grumpy old gits" christmas party, we meet at the birchgrove every 6 weeks or so, on my last visit i noticed the festive menu and thought it would be good idea to book, and it was, our table was all ready, crackers, christmas table cloth, table decoration, (bit naff penguin, but a talking point for a bunch of baar humbugs) food was great, but above all, and was the icing (on the christmas cake) was the service, there are two ladies it seems to me that run the kitchen, i think her name is Jade, she is a credit to your establishment, nothing is too much trouble, we always eat and its always fab, but last night was brilliant, we really enjoyed, thankyou to you all but especially to jade and the other lady in the kitchen, see you in new year, keep up the good work, you are apprieciated for your hard work always, and probably dont get much recognition, well done, bunch of old gits....
