Driving back to Gloucestershire along M4, I fancied fish and chips by the sea, so popped into Barry Island. Searched on Google and Hungry Shark had great reviews. Sat nav lost signal so took some time to find. Parked in disabled parking opposite shop as no-one about in November. Popped into shop and didn't look like how I imagined after just reading great reviews, seemed like a burger/kebab late night takeaway. Great welcome, told fish cooked fresh 6-7 mins so ordered fish and chips and mushy peas, good price too. Sat in van for short time and returned to collect my food. Again great friendly welcome and provided all cutlery and napkins free of charge. I don't normally write reviews but deffo best fish and chips ever (and I've eaten in the best rated fish and chip shops all over Britain). The fish was moist and flakey with clean, light delicate batter. Chips also clean, fresh tasting perfectly seasoned with salt and vinegar sprayed on served in a box. Mushy peas perfect, not too runny and served hot in top quality plastic container. Didn't think I'd eat it all but couldn't stop once started, nodding after each mouthful with pure delight. I live just over 80 miles away in the Cotswolds and will definitely be making excuses to return. Top job...

I don’t usually do reviews but this is hand on heart the best chip shop I’ve ever been to. This was my second visit and on both occasions I had fish bites and chips. It was hands down the best fish and chips I’ve had, not just in Barry but anywhere. The chips were perfect, beautifully cooked and not a nasty black bit in sight! The fish bites were enormous, skinned, 100% white and in beautifully crisp batter. The price was really reasonable too. I live in Newport but travel the approximate 45 minute journey to go to this chip shop it is that good. I have never felt so passionate about recommending a food establishment. The service is also outstanding. The first time I went it was 5 to 9 and it turned out they shut at 9. They still did fish and chips for me though and nothing ever seems to be too much trouble. It goes without saying I recommend anyone in the area try...

I came here yesterday with the family after some years and I remember coming here before and I didn't get the name of this place. By the way I'm the guy with the Manchester United top and every staff were so friendly and joked around and welcoming I absolutely loved their banter and hospitality. They were all Chelsea fans hehe and we had a good conversation. I must say when the food arrived I was absolutely blown away and it was delicious, fresh succulent and my father said to me this is the best fish and chips I've had in my life along with the Irish curry sauce and the mixed donner also was unbelievable as this time my mother who said its the best she has had. I must say hats off to these guys you have won me over and if I do come again we will definitely pay a visit. We came in a big group from Birmingham. Thank you very much for making this a...

Hungry Shark is a bustling spot, especially with its prime location near the busy beach, which naturally attracts a lot of visitors. Despite the crowd, the service is impressively quick, allowing you to get your food without much delay. The fish and chips were enjoyable, with a decent portion size, though I found the fish to be slightly over-fried for my taste. The mix donner kebab was also generous in portion, but the lamb donner kebab was a bit too oily. The prices are on the higher side, but given the restaurant’s convenient beachside location, it’s understandable. Despite these minor critiques, I would still recommend giving Hungry Shark a try, especially if you’re looking for a quick and hearty meal after a day at the beach.

I visited Hungry Shark in Barry Island and was really impressed. The fish and chips were delicious – crispy, light batter and fresh fish cooked perfectly. What makes it even better is that the food is halal, which is such a great option to have in the area. The portions were generous, everything was served hot, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. It’s definitely worth stopping by if you’re in Barry Island and fancy proper fish and chips with great taste and quality. Highly recommend.
