Overall a good evening here. Called ahead to book a table as we weren't a small group, but when we arrived there were only 1 or 2 tables occupied and the place lacked an atmosphere as a result. The staff were accomodating when finding us a suitable table, including when we changed our mind and moved by deciding on taking up their offer to put 2 smaller ones together to give us all room to get in and out as needed. The place filled up a little more after that so there was a bit more of an atmosphere to the place by the time the evening got going. Our orders were taken and after a reasonable time waiting our starters arrived, which were tasty but I wouldn't say exceptional. Our mains arrived after a reasonable gap, and a minor issue with a rice portion being missing was resolved very quickly. Everyone in our group seemed happy with the food, and mine was certainly much nicer than anything a supermarket could ever provide. We were too stuffed for desserts unfortunately, but some of the tables around us were having them and from what we could see they certainly looked good. Once our meals were finished, the staff started clearing our table and were very obliging in sorting some of our leftover meals into "doggy bags" (they are a takeaway so they went into some takeaway containers which was certainly acceptable). We were then given a shot glass each of something akin to Baileys, which was hopefully complimentary but I didn't get to check the bill. If complimentary then that was a nice touch, just a shame I was driving so couldn't have any! We had a good evening and didn't find the staff rude or to be hanging around as other reviews have indicated. The food was good and there were no complaints, but perhaps it is a tad overpriced by maybe a pound or 2 per dish. They do takeaway as well though, so that may be...
Read moreNot sure if you are all the same...BUT when I go out for a meal...I like the night to have a feel to it...the venue must have atmosphere...the surrounding be cosy or quirky or just plain right to suit the place...the Paanshee was originally a kitchen showroom...and sadly it still has this feel to it....we visited on Christmas Eve....nothing special even though it was Christmas...the décor is very bland...I know less is more...but this was too much less....we had a table down the back in a corner....the seats are that awful wipe clean polished fake leather look...the tables are not really big enough for 4 people with drinks and food etc.....the walls are plain and splattered with stains in places....and our wall was obviously the dividing wall of the kitchen behind...all we heard was constant banging against the wall during the evening.....the awful music was overpowering...the lighting is so low you cannot read the small print on the menu that is printed on shiny silver/gold and black card making it really difficult to read....The service was exceptionally slow....after we had our drinks it took AGES for someone to come and take the order....Now....the staff are really friendly....and this helped.....and the food which is the main reason we booked here....was I have to say really good....nothing special...but really tasty and exactly what we all wanted....except maybe my wife's naan bread which was quite flat and chewy....but other wise absolutely fine…..would I go again....personally NO....it just doesn't do it for me....when we go out....I like the whole evening to be accounted for....décor...looks ...feel....staff....and of course food....prices do not matter too much....I am happy as long as the evening was enjoyable...sadly not here and not...
Read moreAsked for recomended dish and was given the Welsh Lamb special, this was very dissapointing, the dish was in three sections 1. fried onion & leek - this was greasy without any sauce and did nothing for the dish; 2. Rice which was the only thing that was nice; 3. Sliced lamb in a sauce without any depth and although I had asked for additional spice was bland and tasted as if it made with MSG. The lamb was not succulent chunks but chewy slices as if it was leftovers. An unsucessful attempt was made to present this dish as something special, and was very overpriced. My Partners chose from the signature menu a lamb dish. Although the lamb was nicely cooked chunks as expected the sauce tasted as if it mainly came fron a jar of sweet chilly sauce with no flavour depth, over sweet, to much MSG, very poor. Rice, nans and side dish were fine. A couple of days later I noticed that £9.00 had been added to the bill which I had not noticed w hen paying the bill. I didn't reconise this charge as anything that we had ordered, if it was a service charge it was excessive at about 21% and I would have queried it and refused to pay it. My fault for not looking properly at the time. Overall not a...
