Me and my parents visited here tonight, we love coming to Pen Y Bont as the service is always exceptional, it's a lovely atmosphere and the food is very reasonably priced with perfect portion sizes. Tonight in particular, the service was absolutely incredible - and it Joe's exceptional customer service must be acknowledged. Tonight, I ordered the Vegan Watermelon & Feta Salad. When the salad arrived, there seemed to be no feta with the salad - it was not as described on the menu. After bringing this to the attention of one of the waiters, Joe, he completely understood my concern and disappointment when being presented with the dish. He apologised profusely and explained why the salad could not be prepared to how it is described in the menu, with the menu recently being amended. He gave me a number of alternatives and asked me what I would like to do in regard to my main dish, and he left it entirely down to me and what I would like to do following this scenario. One of these alternatives was to have a vegan burger and fries prepared, a different dish altogether - I asked if this would be possible and he made sure that this was prepared efficiently so that I could enjoy my meal with my parents. He was very attentive and was willing to do anything he could to guarantee that I would enjoy my meal, which really made the night for me. This is the best customer service that I have received in a restaurant. Upon eating my meal with my parents, Joe came back to check that everything was okay before he finished and to apologise again, which really did mean a lot to both me and my parents. It should also be noted that the salad was not actually included in the bill at the end of the meal. I cannot emphasise enough how brilliant the customer service was tonight. We will definitely be coming back, and we are already looking at booking a table for Boxing Day - probably a little bit early but we love it here so much and tonight is an example of one of the many reasons as to why we keep coming back. Thank you...
Read moreFor Christmas Eve, as a family (party of 8) we went to pen y bont farm to have our Christmas gathering ruined by them. First thing I noticed the lack of hygiene with the cleanliness of the tables. The table I sat on, which was not the same level as the rest of them, was so greasy you could write your name on it. Then I tried to order steak, but they couldn’t be bothered making the peppercorn sauce, so I ordered Hunters chicken. Only to find a longish black hair halfway buried in the cheese. What makes it worse, I just inject myself with insulin which I was in danger of going hypo. So, I waited for the new meal to come while my family finished their meal, then I got my meal. They said, “I have brought your meal, freshly made”. I got annoyed with that remark and said “so the previous one wasn’t fresh”??. I started to eat the chicken only to find that they had rushed it as the chicken was chewy. I tried to eat it as my glucose level would have dropped off if I hadn’t, only to find I had a gagging reaction to the rubbery chicken. The manager came, and I told him the chicken was rubbery, and it had been rushed off. He has denied it and said, "what I can do make it better". At this point, I wanted him to go away as I was in a situation where I could have problems. So I said," Could you turn back time? so I can eat my food with my family. This is a special night, and he has just thought by saying cheap words he is going to make it better. Then he said, "I will not charge you that meal". I would expect them to half the bill for all the problems they created. At the end I had to eat the chips, so I didn’t go hypo.
You need to ask yourselves why are you putting your trust and eating their food, if they can’t even clean the tables, and they serve you food with hair in it, and then they rush your food and bring you disgusting food as specially at...
Read moreWe were there on the evening of Friday 30th May. Fantastic service from the young lady attending our party of fourteen. Very friendly and considerate - a refreshing change from what often passes as service these days. Would give more stars for service if I could.
Food and drinks were all received well and without any delays. So another 5 stars there!
Only reason for deducting a star is that, much like another establishment on the outskirts of Mold, they often have no tables free at short notice. It's as much a criticism of the psyche of people in this area, as it is the restaurant, but I cannot engage in the apparently popular tendency to book book book (!) everything 3 months in advance, whenever there's anything that even remotely resembles a holiday or festive time of year.
It has been my experince that in many respectable cities it is possible to turn up to a similar establishment and wait only a few minutes for a table. I therefore struggle with the almost engineered exclusivity that exists in some of the out of town restaurants in this area. We've unfortunately failed to get a table at this restaurant many times, even when trying to reserve several days in advance. This is disappointing because it's such a nice place.
4 stars - but make sure you know your evening plans several weeks in advance, especially approaching a...
