OMG, don't know where to start...Ordered taken from 2 parties at one table, first order (for 2 out of 5 of our party) simply wanted to change rice to chips on curry! Told "Curry doesn't come with rice!" So ordered chips. Ordered another meal, drinks supposed to be included but not asked what drinks, person on till said "oops should have asked if you wanted drinks" as we'd already ordered drinks initially we didnt make a fuss and said its ok(so drink drinks down). Second order (3 out of 5 persons)2 steaks, one rare one med/rarer and one burger, got the drinks offered this time (rare steak arrives well done, sent back for another, comes blue and cold inside decided to eat it anyway, burger comes stone cold inside, curry arrives with rice no chips, all start to eat despite one steak still not arrived, kindly asked about remaining steak, told"sorry steak didnt go through go order another" after 4 of 5 of us finishing eating meals steak arrives. After leaving the young man who had the burger is ill being sick, he's in bed today with diarrhoea and bad stomach ache! Made complaints at the end, woman behind till storms off! Probably the worst experience eating out ever in my 47 years now looking after my son (lad with burger) so a day off work for me and being self employed no wages for the day! Costly, very unpleasant experience, feel very let down. Only one positive the lad who served us was making every effort and you could tell he was very embarrassed by what...
Read moreI used to really like this place but it's going downhill faster than a downhill skier. Over last 3months, last time being sat 12th March. Once again only 2 guest ales on. On a Saturday. I'm thankfully finished with the place having walked in a dozen times or so looked at choice of ale & walked out again. I've spoken to people about it & we all feel the same. Place needs a major re-fit and a qualified staff member in cellar management. Used to be a pub for good choice of ale. Now it's nothing more than a glorified cafe with a licence to sell Ale (when they have some of course). Yes, you can argue that 2 guest ales are enough. I'd come back from Ruthin spoons & to be honest it wasn't much better there. I can drink Ruddles & Abbott any time of week. Food was nice though in ruthin. This place needs addressing at higher management to rectify problems....Don't blame the staff it's the responsibility of regional/area management. Remember the good days when you used to have Camra nights, meet the brewer & 4 or 5 ales on. Yes brexit, pandemic etc can be blamed for a lot. But there are plenty of local breweries in Wales which would, I guess be happy to do business with you....and brewers in places like liverpool, the wirral & Manchester area. For example 4t's warrington, Glen Affric wirral, Big bog liverpool, pollys, hafod, Big hand...please, if there is money in the pot, spare a thought for this once pretty damn good...
Read moreThere is an unofficial saying that rings true across the entire of the UK "You can't go wrong with Spoons". The Gold Cape may be the one exception I have found thus far. That isn't to say its not popular.
The Gold Capes claim to fame is its probably one of the cheapest places in Flintshire to drink and you don't have to worry about being stabbed. It brings in the regular crowd of old and young but seems to heavily favour the younger crowd. Brining youths from literally miles around on weekends. It often becomes overcrowded when an event that is enhanced by drinking is occurring.
I used to eat here on an almost weekly basis with two others. It was a rarity that something wouldn't go wrong with the orders. Mostly simple things like not receiving something like cutlery, missing chips, and other easy fixes of staff or a microwave can fix - but an inconvenience. The layout isn't great for eating, with just one floor a solid proportion of tables are affected by the opening and closing of outside doors. Bar a handful of other tables the rest align walkways.
That said its a spoons that rarely has people performing random drug checks on patrons. The menu is standard Spoons affair @ spoons prices which I presume are substituted somehow by the Brexit...
