PizzaExpress — Restaurant in Wales

Myself and my partner visited Monmouth Pizza Express on a Tuesday evening after a bank holiday. It was very quiet and we needn’t have booked.

A number of items were unavailable because of how busy it was.

It appeared well staffed but tables were left uncleared for a while.

My drink arrived in a warm glass.

The starters were terrible… we ordered king prawns and received no more than 4 edible, tiny prawns that had not been deveined, and were gritty, cold and unpleasant. Initially we thought it was someone else’s starter as the tiny prawns were buried under a mound of chopped up old tomato. Wretched.

My pizza was delicious, however my partners pasta was undercooked. Al dente is one thing, but this was clearly undercooked and also cold.

We left the starter, disgusted, but the waiter omitted to take it away, and we left the pasta too.

The restaurant is large and ordinarily pleasant but the service is not desirable. The price is also outrageous considering other nearby Italian restaurants.

Lastly, the chef is comfortable with leaving his tobacco products on his work station. I don’t doubt this is common practice behind closed doors, but in an open kitchen, is...

Fabulous and a new gluten free experience for my wife who now rates Pizza Express highly on her Instagram and Facebook feeds! We asked if there was gluten free pizza and pasta available and there certainly was! Gluten free dough balls and olives to start with - it's been many many years since my wife has been able to get dough balls and these were good, the pizza was tasty and fresh, dinner was perfect! Thank you's go to all the staff with a specific mention and "Thank You" to (probably?) the newest team member Thomas who at age 20 was extremely pleased to be working here and took great care of us throughout. We ended up there last night which was valentines, we were booked into the Italian but left as there was only a set menu which we hadnt been informed of. We were welcomed by a lovely lady I think she was the manager, she asked if we had a booking but then said they could fit us in as had a cancellation. She said a few had walked in from the Italian. The food was fantastic, service even better, every staff member had a smile and were very polite. The mix up from the Italian definitely worked in our favour. Thank you for fitting us in and welcoming us when we’d not booked with you. We will definitely be back...
