The Bank Wine Bar, Wrexham
Tapas and truffle fries in a former bank? Count me in. I visited The Bank Wine Bar in Wrexham for a bite-sized feast that promised richness and ended up… a little overdrawn.
🍴 The Line-Up:
Baked Camembert with Bread Duck Pulled Pork with Chinese-style sauce Garlic Mushrooms on Sourdough Truffle Fries A rather tragic cappuccino
🪑 First Impressions:
The place looked great — clean, stylish, and welcoming. We were seated quickly, and our waitress was a gem: friendly, attentive, and cheerful. Sadly, not a single staff member spoke Welsh — disappointing in the heart of Wales.
☕ The Coffee Conundrum
Let’s start with what came first — the cappuccino. Cold, funky, and likely made with milk that was heading past its prime. Not the best start to a meal.
🧀 Baked Camembert
Redemption came fast. This dish was rich, gooey, and exactly what you want from baked cheese. The bread was crispy, perfect for dipping. A proper warm-up act.
🍄 Garlic Mushrooms
Unfortunately, the mushrooms were a letdown. Overcooked and bland, sat limply on a slice of sourdough that couldn’t save them. The sauce? A creamy ghost — present but flavourless.
🦆 The Duck
This one wins the award for “Most Forgettable Dish of the Night.” Not offensive, not exciting — just… duck that ducked out of being memorable.
🐖 Pulled Pork
Now this was special. Melt-in-the-mouth pork bathed in a sweet, Chinese-style sauce that hit the balance perfectly. Star of the show.
🍟 Truffle Fries
Seasoned like a pro with salt and pepper, topped with a decadent truffle sauce — but, sadly, they were cold. Which is a real shame because the flavour was banging.
🔚 Final Verdict:
The Bank serves up a stylish setting and warm service, but the experience was hit-and-miss. Some plates absolutely delivered (pulled pork and camembert), while others fell flat or chilled — literally.
Would I go back? Maybe — but I’d skip the mushrooms, ask for hot fries, and order a soft drink over that coffee.

Read moreA perfect post-match dinner and the highlight of our trip to Wrexham. After a Wrexham football match, my wife and I headed to The Bank Restaurant—and even though they were fully booked, the owner, Alex, welcomed us with incredible hospitality and found a way to make room for us.
The restaurant has a cozy, romantic atmosphere. Alex recommended a fantastic bottle of wine that paired perfectly with everything we ordered. We ended up enjoying a relaxed, two-hour dinner that felt more like an experience than just a meal.
The duck hash and chicken tacos were absolute standouts—flavorful, beautifully plated, and cooked to perfection. But truthfully, everything we tasted from the menu was excellent. Throughout the evening, Alex and the wait staff checked in on us often, always warm and attentive, treating us like family.
It was the perfect way to wrap up our time in Wrexham. Can’t recommend this place enough—we’ll definitely be back next time...

We stopped at several places but being from out of town, we didn’t think to make a booking ahead and most of the restaurants we stopped in did not have available tables for hours. We walked by The Bank and stopped in to see if they happened to have a table and surprisingly, they had a large table at the front for just the two of us. We had three small plates, the fried squid, brisket, and mozzarella and tomatoes. Highly recommend the squid and the brisket. Their Old Fashioned and Godfather were quite good. We met a young couple and started chatting. They joined us at our table and we had a wonderful visit. The decor is very nice, with a beautiful spiral staircase to one side. The service was perfect.
