Having lived locally for many years, we are aware of Kamal's reputation and were pleased to find out that he had taken over the establishment (and reinstated the original 1980s name, Golden Curry!). We have had three meals there since the re-opening and have had a warm welcome and excellent food on each occasion. Service has been attentive without being overbearing. Drinks orders were taken immediately and arrived swiftly, along with pappadoms and chutneys, while we were given time to select from a menu that offers a diverse range of dishes. Portions are generous, so we haven't felt inclined to choose starters, but the main courses offer many alternatives according to personal taste. Sizzling dishes (e.g. Shashliks) first smell and then taste wonderful. I've tried 2 dishes that I haven't seen elsewhere (Lamb Tak-a-Tin and Hassina Chilli Chicken) and both were superb - great fresh flavours and top quality ingredients. We've had a few vegetable sides, rice and a mixture of naans and, along with drinks, bills have come to approx £20 per person - I think great value, given the...
Read moreWe ordered a Takeaway from the The Golden Curry this evening, and it was a great experience. They have a 4 star Food Hygiene rating which is the best of all the Indian restaurants in Swansea (something I always check after a bad experience previously), and the food was exceptional. I would highly recommend this. We ordered early in the day online (which you can do at any time), and the website is really easy to use. Later in the evening, I got an email to say that my order had been accepted (which was re-assuring) and it was all ready for me when I went and collected it at our desired time we selected earlier. They also offer delivery, but we were passing by. The food was great (we ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Balti, and Vegetable Jalfrezi as our mains, and then all the usual sides including rice, naan and poppadoms). Everything was extremely tasty and cooked perfectly, and the quantity of food was spot on. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an Indian restaurant or takeaway...
Read moreWhat an experience. Never been ignored so thoroughly at a restaurant before. Inflexible, forgetful and unfriendly staff. It was not busy when we went but the wait to order drinks, order food, and to eat was ridiculous.
We said we were ready to order food when they finally came to take our drinks order, and then still had to wait another half an hour before anyone was willing to take our order, despite asking another member of staff in the mean time. The table next to us was offered poppadoms and chutneys, we had to ask and then they were only given reluctantly. We asked for a jug of water, and were provided with two small glasses. They were not able to add or adjust anything on their menu, and argued with us when we politely asked, despite the menu stating otherwise.
It was an entertaining experience, purely because of how bad it was.
Food wasn't bad, so I'd get a take-away next time.
EDIT: Editing the review because of the way I felt the following day - it...
