I wouldn’t typically review a place like Spoons because I feel as if on some sense you know what you’re going to get. Decent food for a decent price - however, after the experience I had in this restaurant I feel compelled to review. I, and some others planned to meet some friends and decided to gather here and eat. However, one of my friends had a mcdonalds voucher so decided to get small fries and a coke and eat inside spoons since that’s where everybody else was eating anyways. We had all sat down for about 5-6 minutes before a member of staff came over and started SHOUTING at my friend saying how disrespectful it was for her to be eating something else in the building (as if this grotty pub was some fine establishment), my friend, being non-confrontational and trying to diffuse the situation was instantly apologetic and politely asks if she could just put the mcdonalds in her bag and continue to sit down with us, to which he replied, (now standing over her and once again shouting) ‘no! You need to get up right now before I ban all of you!’ and ‘you leave right now or you’re never leaving!’ (which sounded like a light threat) as she picks up her bag and coat, getting up to leave, he continues to verbally berate her saying ‘Come on! It’s now or never!’. And motioning her angrily to pack up faster. (The whole restaurant now quiet watching him scream at this poor woman.) This situation could easily of been handled by him politely telling her that if she wanted to sit in the building, she had to get rid of her food and order, (even silently and politely asking her to leave would be okay!) but I guess that a grown man yelling at and humiliating a young woman over a small mcdonalds fries and coke is acceptable(?). As I had already ordered, I couldn’t leave, however some people went with her (out of pure disgust for the way she was treated). When my food arrived on the table by the man, he spat out the sentence ‘here’s your food. Thanks for ordering, unlike some of your friends.’ with a rude tone and disgusted look on his face. Being a server should always be about diffusing difficult situations, it should NEVER be about starting difficult situations. I am so dissatisfied with the member of staff and do not...
Read moreThis isn’t a review about your food or atmosphere. This is a review about your uneducated staff member. On Tuesday 6th June after seeing Coldplay at the principality stadium I was safely escorted out due to being pregnant. After leaving the premises I walked over to the Great Western Pub and the queue to get in was quite long, now like I said I’m pregnant and I only wanted to go in to use the toilet which at this point I was really desperate to use. So I went over to the security lady and asked politely if I could just go in to use the toilet and I’ll be straight back out, I wasn’t there for a good time, drink or food, I just needed the toilet. This lady refused me going in and said I needed to join the queue. I mentioned again I couldn’t wait that long I was really desperate. She then said ‘what makes you any different to anyone else stood in line’ (being pregnant I thought??!) anyway, I walked away to join the queue and said ‘that’s shocking’ which alot of people in the queue even said the same thing. Anyway a lovely gentleman at the front said I could go in-front of him in the queue and everyone else around was happy for me to do this! I come face to face with the same security lady and she said ‘you’re not coming in here, you showed signs of aggression and I won’t stand for it’ now I was not on your premises when I stated how shocking I thought she was and so that was completely unreasonable, not only that, it’s actually illegal to refuse a pregnant woman to use the toilet. If this is the sort of door staff you pay to manage your doors then I dread to think what kind of cold hearted staff you have inside the pub. As women we should have a very clear understanding of each other, especially when it comes to pregnancy. I’m actually really really shocked this has happened to me. I had to walk the streets trying to find a toilet, I had to try and look for a pub with a small queue to get into so I could use the toilet. I physically cannot believe it. I’ll never let this go. And will always advise people of this when going to your...
Read moreI went here for lunch today and I can honestly say I am disappointed and so are my friends. To start off the hygiene in this place appears abysmal. The menus are sticky. I had to install their app to check out the menu because their paper menus are disgusting. I ended up ordering an ultimate burger with no gerkins or sauce, as I'm not a big fan of veggies or sauce, I'm picky. What came to me was a burger, that's for sure, but what was not advertised on my menu was that the burger also came with lettuce, tomato, and sliced pickle (sliced longways). I was unhappy with this order, but decided to just flick off the offending veg rather than sending it back and waiting for another. Now eating the burger with just the patty, cheese, and bacon, I was left with further disappointment. The chef was clearly a master with the knife, because this bacon was thin to the point where it was translucent, and it wasn't even fresh; it was hard and dry, more akin to jerky than actual bacon. The burger and buns were also bone dry, despite being coated in a layer of oil or something, which im sure was brushed or sprayed on after the burger was assembled. Of this meal half of the flavour was contained within the slice of lime I got in my glass of pepsi. This all came out at £7.55, which is a decent price, but I could have gone down to burger king and got a burger bigger and more flavourful than that for less. If you're looking for a good burger, this is...
