Shimla Peppers Balloons Bar & Restaurant offers a solid dining experience with a mix of Indian and English dishes in a relaxed setting. The food is fresh, flavorful, and well prepared, with the naan breads standing out as a highlight. The menu also includes English options like fish and chips, making it a versatile choice for different tastes. The restaurant has its own car park, which is convenient, and a garden eating area that’s great for summer dining. Inside, there’s a bar, a seating lounge, a main dining area, and a function room available for bookings. However, the layout of the building feels a bit all over the place, and finding the entrance can be confusing, which might be frustrating for first time visitors. The service is very good. The atmosphere is very casual, with no dress code, making it an easy going spot for a meal. That said, it doesn’t have a particularly special ambiance or standout location. It’s more of a reliable place for a satisfying meal rather than a destination for a special occasion. If you’re looking for good food in a relaxed setting and don’t mind navigating the layout, it’s worth checking out.

We field tested Shimla Peppers after 25years of absence. We weren't disappointed. We dined at 6pm so can't comment on service if busy. Poppadoms were plentiful & fresh, and non-brittle. At bit more chopped onion would have been appreciated, but we could have asked. Menu is well structured. All dishes are cooked to "medium". If you want it hotter or milder then tell your waiter. Jay was very helpful. Chicken Kadhai and Chicken Bhuna were chosen. Chicken was really tender. Owner sources her meat from a local butcher and pays a little more for quality. Both sauces were freshly cooked and very and distinctly flavoured. Garlic fried rice and an ample roti for accompaniments. Kingfisher lager, other beers and ciders. Owner has taken over the old Balloons Wine Bar and many relict features still exist even the table napkins. It's very pleasant to dine outdoors on a verandah with patio heater. Spacious indoor and outdoor tables. There is a bar area. Great value for money. A return is guaranteed.

One gem of a restaurant! I didn’t know about them even though I been living in that area for quite few years but it was simply amazing! The food, the service was great and customers friendly staffs. Had a long conversation with one of the member of the staffs and got to know a lot about the restaurant which i was quite amazed about! Will be back again as it didn’t disappoint 👌 the new Flaming grill was Just amazing🔥👌

After having an absolute nightmare on Mother’s Day at another restaurant ‘roti pani’, this restaurant ‘shimla peppers‘ saved the day and welcomed us with open arms.

They offered us indoor or outdoor seating. I thought it would be too cold outside but the garden/decking area had such a Mediterranean feel to it we decided to try it after the waiter said he will heat up the whole area - I was more curious than anything so we tried it.

To my amazement the waiter managed to heat up the whole outside decking area using just 4 outdoor halogen heater/lights. Honesty felt like we were on holiday.

Starters and mains were served on time and came out piping hot just as we like. Food was super tasty and I could tell everything was freshly prepared using good quality ingredients. The chicken curry I ordered was divine. Naan was soft as you like and drinks were plentiful and flowing.

2 waiters that made our night very special and were very attentive making sure we were always topped up and didn’t have to wait more than 30 seconds to get there attention - customer service at its finest.

Jahid and Miah were both absolutely perfect waiters and hope they get recognition and a bonus for their outstanding customer service!!

Will definitely be visiting this...

I'm really bummed out about this place. I thought we'd have a good time there after a long day, but when we got there, the guy who greeted us looked like he just got out of bed. He was wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt. He didn't seem to have any professionalism or a friendly greeting. First impressions are important, right? So, it didn't start off well at all. Then we asked to sit outside because it was nice, but there were so many flies everywhere. So we decided to change our minds and asked to move inside. The waiter then came to take our order 10 minutes later, before we placed our order we asked if the food was halal and he said yes. So we went ahead and placed our order. About 20-25 minutes later, I went to ask how long for the drinks and food, only to be told by the waiter who had been dealing with us from the start that the food is not halal. I was really annoyed and asked how can you not know, he responded. I've been working here for 11 years and I just discovered that we're not halal. This waiter who has been serving previous customers has been providing wrong info about halal food. Then he just shrugged his shoulders when I asked why he didn't tell us earlier. We left feeling disappointed and disgusted with...

We visited on Thursday evening and were not disappointed. The restaurant recently relaunched and this was our first visit since then. What a transformation! The decor is wonderful, the atmosphere welcoming and relaxing, and the service efficient but not overbearing. We were seated on the balcony with a lovely view of St Matthew's church. They also have wonderful infrared heaters on the balcony, which throws out just enough heat to take the chill off. An excellent idea. The menu is compact, which I found to be reassuring as it was obvious the dishes that made the cut were carefully thought out. We shared the mixed platter to start. Delicious morsels of salmon, beef, chicken and mushrooms went down extremely well. There was also a vegetarian version available. As for mains, my choice of the lamb saag was absolutely the right one. The meat was melt in the mouth and the spinach creamy. My dining companion's choice of the chicken jalfrezi was also a good one; extremely tasty by all accounts. A portion of pilau rice and naan complemented the dishes perfectly. Please give this restaurant a try; it is much improved and we shall be back very soon for another...
