I have never left a Google review of anything before but I just wanted to let everyone know that you should definitely NOT order a State Dog if you're going on a first date or a business meeting or something because this is a BEAST. I had this last night and it is quite possibly the most logistically difficult meal I have ever had the experience of eating in any Wetherspoons EVER. "This looks amazing" I thought, and then I realised I hadn't the foggiest as to how exactly I would consume it. Well, it turns out you can pick it up in the convenient paper it is placed in, but the Monterey Jack cheese will spill out of the edges, the crispy onion will tumble all over the table, bacon will spill into your dreams, gherkins will fly from your hands. My boyfriend found this the most entertaining thing to watch, and as a result I would definitely recommend this meal for its entertainment value alone. It does taste good too as an added bonus, though. Also, the onion rings were perfect and service was great, but really, this thing should be renamed "the State Dog...
Read moreWhat a poor experience. I use ‘Spoons a lot, mainly because of the range of ales they have. Most are well kept and different from the run of the mill offerings in other places. This was no exception. A pint of Sambrooks Powerhouse Porter and another of Rampart Dark Ale very tasty. The problem was with the staff, food and cleanliness. My first attempt at buying a drink consisted of being ignored. Y 3 staff members who walked up and down the bar aimlessly. I eventually asked one of them ’can I buy a drink?’ At which point I was served, so obviously not doing anything else. When I went back to order food, exactly the same thing. Food was not pleasant, watery scampi and, if there could be such a thing, chewy chips! I had to return to the bar to get clean cutlery as the ones given to us were filthy with food remnants on them. As we walked out I would estimate that at least 80% of the tables that weren’t being used were full of dirty plates and glasses. The clearing up rota had not been filled. Will still visit for beers but I don’t think I will eat...
Read moreWow, no words will comprehend our experience today. We only had a basket meal, but the service was absolutely fantastic. We were served by a gent who made me smile from first approaching the bar. He was training a young man on his first shift- to say a smile is contagious was an understatement. The trainer was taking his lead from this perfect employee on customer service. He was apologising to customers for being slow, asking how their day was, nothing fazed him although you could clearly see he was nervous. Well done to them both. Then not only that , we were in a rush and the serving staff were just as good. All staff had smiles, engaging with customers and creating a wonderful atmosphere. Who ever employed this team has hit the nail on the head for customer service. This public house chain are known for cheaper alcohol and pub food. Well , I completely dispute this as this team have made this eating venue 4star. Well done to everyone. If you do a venue of the month I would definitely recommend this team as a whole. One extremely...
