Caffè Nero — Restaurant in Waverley

Really sad not to be higher. Today I went in for a coffee with my husband- there appeared to be no sign asking us to wear a mask and at that point no one was wearing a mask in the Café at all- including others appearing to wait for coffee. There have been so many iterations of rules that we unfortunately misinterpreted this as no need to wear one (expecting to see a sign). We were very rudely served by a young girl with dark hair who, even once we put our masks on when we were asked by her, continued to treat us with disdain. Usually the staff in their are so friendly! I noticed when waiting for our order that the sign meant for masks had been turned around so that you couldn’t see it at point of entry. I mentioned this to her so that future customers wouldn’t be confused as we were at the lack of masks from everyone else not queueing (our mistake). It’s at this point she became incredibly rude. I mentioned that the sign had turned around and tried to apologise for our ignorance, but she started to lecture me on mask wearing and handed our (sub-par) coffee to us. I had simply suggested that the sign was turned around and there was no need for such treatment. I am a student at the college and this used to be my favourite cafe to sit and do my work in. I went in on my birthday to join my friends who were sitting upstairs, since I booked for a restaurant in town an hour later (there were 6 of us). We sat down for a second and one of the members of staff told us to buy something or leave, which was reasonable, however his attitude was not pleasant. Me and one of my friends went to buy something and he proceeded to tell my other friends to leave in a very rude and passive aggressive way. 3 of my friends went to get something from their cars and when they returned the same member of staff literally turned them away at the door, despite one of them purchasing food earlier. Bear in mind it was freezing and getting dark outside, with still 20 minutes till our booking. We decided to leave to be with our friends who got turned away and the man started counting us as we walked out and then said ‘that’s all of them’ as if we were causing trouble? I've been around Godalming for some jobs. Went to coffee, Nero!! Honestly, it's a ver cold welcoming.. After ordering my coffee, I went to sit down to carry on some online jobs. I've been not served at all!! They asked me to collect my coffé even if none was waiting to get its order!! When I went to collect my order, I asked for a sweetner!! The girl told me it is finished!!in a very unprofessional way. It was easy to get a sweetener somewhere, but she didn't care. Someone else ordered after me and was served at their table!!! Wooow.. I can imagine when it's busy. I don't mind, but I would like to get my coffee and, in the meantime, do my business, which honestly has a deadline. I did say fine!! When I collect my order, no spoon has been given!! A classic cortardo with no spoon!! I toke my ☕️ and left!! I won't really recommend...
