Very mixed review here but sad to say I won't return I went in the pub with my family on Sunday 13th and was lovely, a friend and her children came to visit Wednesday 17th so we all went there for dinner, was very busy but the lady who seated and served us was lovely, very friendly & helpful. However, at the end of a very enjoyable meal we went to the bar to pay, I stood at the end of the bar, close to the door leading to the toilets (didn't notice this at the time) and a guy (later informed a regular) walked through the door from the direction of the toilets and although there is a window in the door which he could have seen me and maybe opened it slowly and tapped me/ called to me etc he pushed it open fully and walked through. I stumbled forward with the blow and have now a rather substantial bruise on my back from the door handle. Rather than an apology the guy said 'that's what you get for standing by a door' making it seem intentional Very sad to say the lady behind the bar heard/ saw this happen and did nothing. I work in hospitality and would not have allowed this to have happened without speaking to the guy. Very sad about it but if that's the attitude of the regulars I will not be...
Read moreHad a fantastic lunch at the Castle Inn on our first trip to Pevensey Bay with our dog. The pub is dog friendly and traditional inside. We had a walm welcome and were greated by the manager Julie, who brought over a towel to dry of our Leo, as he had been for a dip in the sea. A nice selection of ales on offer and lovely menu of homemade meals on offer. There is also a specials board on offer. I went for the homemade steak & mushroom ale pie. It was full of flavour and came with the most creamy of mashed potato, veg and a small jug if gravy. For dessert I had the lemon cheese cake which was also homemade. Very reasonably priced lunch for two. Large white wine, pint of ale, 2 mains and a dessert for £42. My compliments to the chef and a massive thank you to Julie for her hospitality. We will be back very soon on our next trip to Pevensey. I would highly recommend you pay a visit to...
Read moreThe Castle Inn at Pevensey Bay is a solid traditional pub, close to the beach. It offers a fair selection of cask ales at average prices, a pleasant community atmosphere and the obligatory pub grub. The interior is fairly extensive and rather bright, and there's a small seating area to the front. The pub isn't really close to the castle, it's in "the other" part of Pevensey Bay, the beachfront part. Having a few hours to kill after visiting Pevensey Castle (the trains from Pevensey Bay station in either direction go just four times a day: twice in the morning, and twice in the afternoon along the Hastings to Brighton line), I paid this nice place a visit. Not quite as atmospheric and picturesque as The Royal Oak and Castle Inn (which ACTUALLY is next to the castle), it's...
