Lemon Grove Cafe — Restaurant in West Devon

I’m so sad to be leaving this review, we ate a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to love it. Confused service, at points brilliant and excellent and others we felt like a total inconvenience. The smallest soft drinks - £1.60 each for our 200ml bottles. The wings we shared to start were burnt, then I had a small nachos which had had what tasted like uncle Ben’s chilli, a small side of unmelted mozzarella and jar salsa and guacamole, although the sour cream was real; my friend had a a burger which was absolutely lovely - raising the stars. Also one toilet wouldn’t lock, the other had no loo roll and the disabled one was impossible to access as lots of things were piled in front of the door. I guess the perfect demonstration of the good and the bad was that the toilet had a Neals Yard diffuser which was decadent and lovely, and Chefs Larder hand wash. I am local and heard a lot of good things about this cafe. Unfortunately i ordered 3 milkshakes for nearly £12. Now for nearly £4 each you would expect luxury thick cold milk shake. What I got was a milk drink with a 15mm crust of slimy coconut froth on top.The flavouring had not been mixed into the milk, there was no ice cream, no crushed ice etc so basically a £4 glass of milk. Really shameful

Fair do's I have altered my review as my friend and his wife had a totally difference milkshake experience this week. Lovely rich thick shakes where the straws stood up on their own. They were very happy with them. I now accept I probably just caught them on an off day due to new staff. Would have been 5 star if better...

First impression🤔 - if the lovely staff at this cafe aren’t related to the owners (or indeed part owners themselves) then they deserve a huge round of applause 👏 and a big incentive for the way they handled the busy demands of today - the young girl we had serve us was clearly extremely busy but smiled and assisted fantastically suggesting where to sit and fetching a high chair for my grandson - a HUGE credit to her parents and the cafe 👏 Aside of this, the ham and cheese sandwich 🥪 we were served with was large, fresh and delicious with “proper” ham and a large tasty salad garnish. The hot chocolate could’ve maybe been offered with cream and marshmallows but hey, on the whole absolutely brilliant thank you 🤗 well...
