I love whetherspoons chains some are better than others. Been going to this one for a year. Placed an order today waited 15mins order never materialised. Went to the bar staff ignored me called the staff several times before she acknowledged me, whilst other staff was putting glasses back and the other staff was doing a drink order. Even the woman who ingored me several times eventually responded to me when I ask where my food was. She tried to tell me I hadn’t placed an order when I provided her proof the order was placed. I ask to speak to manager, manager came over but never introduced theirself. Prior to coming over the same boy that ignored me, putting away the glasses approached me, I couldn’t make out what he had said but assumed he was asking how could he help, so I ask if he was the manager. He replied no pulling some weird facial expressions and walked off. Another person came over and never introduced theirselves so I ask whether they were manager. The person replied yes, so I explained what had happened which she didn’t seem to care. During conversation a male came over confirming my order. The manager walked off without during conversation, I ask the male who he was he said deputy manager. ( which been nice if he could of said who he was) The woman from the kitchen started shouting stating at me,I had placed an order and moved tables which wasn’t the case clearly other people do that shouldn’t assume everyone else does this. when I told her this wasn’t the case she didn’t apologise just let going on and on. Doing hand gestures. Nor did any of the staff( manager or deputy manager pull her up on her attitude or behaviour. Deputy manger just said you put the wrong table number down wrong which is an easy mistake. ( try telling your staff this) I walked off after this, member of staff ( the boy how got in a strop and the manager stood beside my table talking looking back at me. When they saw I saw them they moved clearly was talking about me. High turn over, short staff and rude staff. ( manager or supervisor don’t pull staff up when witnessing it) No common sense, or how to introduce theirselfs to customers Know nothing about customer service This pub is terrible will never ever come in her again Atmosphere is great in here but not due to staff due to other customers that make the...

I came to the golden lion on Monday 22.09.25 around midday. Sat down in the garden and ordered food plus alcoholic drink by wetherspoon app. Had a small dog with me. Had my drink ( bottle of asahi beer) brought to me pretty quickly, and the staff member serving it just politely placed it on my table and walked off. I poured the beer into the glass and started drinking it waiting on my food. 5 min later a manager comes out to me and says that I’m not allowed to have my dog in the premises. Been to many spoons out tables with my dog and it’s the first time I was met with this. I explained that I just ordered food and was told I’ll get the refund for it and need to leave. Left hungry and left most of my beer behind. Few days later I got my refund for food only. Not the drink! I’ve been told to leave the premises because of a tiny dog who was just sleeping under the table. Naturally left the premises expecting full refund. I’m round Newmarket a lot, never coming back to this place. Much better spot is the bull round the corner where I got my food and even some water for the dog. Either train your staff to address no dogs policy ( even in the outdoor bit ) or give the full refound after misleading someone to believe dogs are fine when they serve you a drink just to kick you out 5 min later. It was Monday Club as well so £5 for 1/4 of asahi was just taking the piss. Well done mr manager! Hope that gets attention of your bosses! Train your staff, have a sign no dogs allowed. Stop waiting people’s...

This place is the worst pub in Newmarket. It is pointless going there as most of my friends, and myself, get barred by the juvenile staff , on their whim.

IT IS Unlike any other pub that l have been to, in my 48 years of visiting pubs, in EVERY COUNTY IN ENGLAND, SCOTLAND ,WALES AND SOME IN NORTHERN. IRELAND, THE CHANNEL ISLANDS AND IN MORE THAN 30 OTHER COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD.

I HAVE LIVED AND WORKED AND STUDIED IN SEVERAL CITIES IN THE UK.

AND THIS IS THE BOTTOM OF THE PILE.

A PUB , IN A BIG CHAIN. BUT WITH THE POOREST RECORD OF ANY OF THE THOUSANDS OF PUBS THAT I HAVE VISITED.

I FEEL SORRY FOR THE FEW GOOD AND PROFESSIONAL STAFF THAT WORK THERE. BUT, I CAN NOT SEE MY FRIENDS THERE BECAUSE THEY ARE MOSTLY BARRED , BY STAFF , YOUNG ENOUGH TO BE THEIR GRAND CHILDREN.

THE MANAGEMENT ALWAYS TAKE THE WORD OF THE JUNIOR EMPLOYEES OVER THE WORD OF PATRONS WHO HAVE BEEN VISITING THIS ESTABLISHMENT FOR DECADES.

DISABILITY AND OTHER. DISCRIMINATION IS COMMON. STAFF TURNOVER IS A CONSTANT. SERVICE IS POOR, GENERALLY.

MR MARTIN NEEDS TO : INSTIGATE AN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION.

HOLD A PUBLIC FORUM.

We were at Anglesey Abbey and fancied lunch so thought why not try Newmarket weatherspoons. The staff were really good and polite The food however was miserable. 3 fish and chips and an American cheeseburger ( a 6 year old ate and was hungry the burger was that small and we ordered from the adults menu) The fish and chips well... The "batter and chips" I should say. There was no fish inside the batter. It was embarrassing. I can accept most things but it was so poor. One portion was barely acceptable the other two very bad - I've on particular just crazy. They did swap one fish as the children were hungry and got on with it - I ended up eating alone waiting for the new fish. The pictures speak volumes. All in all they really should have offered a refund on this one. Cannot recommend the food here. Maybe as it was just after Christmas they had nothing of quality left but it was very poor

I love Wetherspoons, as usual there's a great selection of well kept beer. It's an attractive building with seating inside and out. I've been using the app this last year and it's excellent, including all the guest beers and even showing upcoming ales. Service is quick although my friend said recently his was a bit slow and they gave him a free drink to compensate (at a different Wetherspoons). Food and drink is so much cheaper than anywhere else, we had two meals and drinks for £14 total. It's a good pub menu, sandwiches, chips, curries, breakfasts etc. Lots of options out of stock recently. Plenty of veg options. Hot and soft drinks from about £1.25. Town centre pub, no parking and not dog friendly.

We stopped for breakfast while travelling. The price was low, but in return the quality was mediocre. For the large breakfast, you had to order tomatoes and black pudding separately, which obviously increased the price. The bacon was lukewarm, and the tomatoes were a bit on the dry side. Drinks from the self-service machine were barely acceptable. Several loud old chaps were sipping their third or fourth beer, judging by the volume and the topics of their conversation. Staff were polite, and the toilets were clean. OK-ish if you stop on the way for a quick bite, but I’d be disappointed if it were my Sunday treat.
