Unfortunately I was very disappointed with my recent visit to La Mama's, before now I have never had a bad experience here but our visit here this weekend was carnage to say the least. I had booked a table for a surprise meal for our friend, eleven of us in total. Prior to our arrival I had asked if we was able to come in and set the table with decorations before being seated and was told it wasn't a problem, we turned up 5-10 mins early to decorate and there was still a full table of people only just giving their dessert orders to the waiter on our allocated table - meaning we had to stall our friend from turning up early and ruining the surprise! We eventually got seated 15 minutes after our reservation, and was asked if I'd pre-ordered our food (which I had) but was told I hadn't, but eventually that was resolved. Our pregnant friend ordered a virgin mojito for it then to arrive with alcohol in it, also unacceptable. 8/11 starters came and we'd all finished our dishes before the remaining three starters arrived. The list goes on... the restaurant was unfortunately over-booked, and out of control really. It's sad because I would never feel the need to write a negative review but our experience was very negative and I won't be returning...
Read moreOverpriced and tacky. Do not spend your money there. I wish I had done some social media research beforehand to see that all their photos are AI. Very telling that they don’t post the real food they make. They post AI photos as of it were the food cooked there. No respectable business would do that. I went to La Mama with my friends last Saturday evening and I don’t think I’ve ever been more disappointed than I was that evening. The fact they call themselves fine dining is criminal. Ordered their balsamic oil which came with bread. Oddly, it came with toasted bread. But not just toasted, burnt toasted bread. Not sure if they think it’s meant to be fancy but the burnt toast could not absorb any balsamic so whoever came up with that needs some cooking lessons. Few of us ordered pizzas. They were clearly frozen. Could buy those in the supermarket and be of better quality. I had the lamb skewers. I have never had lamb so tough and difficult to cut through. It was served with rice that tasted like it was cooked in soap. The price did not reflect the quality at all and unless they have a significant change in attitude to the culinary side of their business, I will not be returning and urge others not to waste their money...
Read moreAbsolutely lovely staff, who have worked there for some time, they know their regulars and it's lovely how they interact with you.
They have changed their menu so there is more variety of dishes as they offer kebab style meals and grills now.
I may have chosen the wrong pasta dish because it was a bit too buttery or oily for me and I felt I had to wipe my lips after each mouthful. This wouldn't stop me from returning though as I will know to choose a different dish, perhaps a tomato based one instead or an option from the grill.
The pizzas look good and the presentation of food is very good. The menu is small and a bit limited but I'm sure the staff can tailor a meal to suit preferences. They also had specials when I went so there is this extra option of food too.
I tend to visit this restaurant on special occasions, I'll be happy to return though as I won't let this one off experience put me...
