We had wanted to visit Overdraft for quite some time after seeing some of their beautiful taco creations on social media. We finally got to visit on Monday of last week on a scorching afternoon. I don't think we're really the target clientele for this spot since my wife and I are teetotal, so I can't speak to the quality of their harder beverages. Nevertheless the experience and the food was generally good. I commend the staff and the restaurant for their responsibility in adhering to the Covid guidance. I can only imagine what a pain it is and yet they do it all with a smile. Apart from this factor, the service here is generally superb and I felt like I was a visitor to their house. The location deserves a word too, we got to sit at the second bench in from the door and had a great time people watching as we waited on our food. As for the food itself, I feel like it was either too elaborate for it's own good or perhaps I just didn't get it. I love Mexican food, and this just seemed to miss the mark a bit, although it was still good. Also, the tacos almost all fell apart after a bite or two. The frijoles refritos weren't mashed...
Read moreI can't believe I'm here giving Overdraft a negative review after so many years enjoying it but here we are. My wife and I attended their new menu launch the other day and boy, what a letdown.
New? The only truly new thing about it is the prices... Tacos are now restricted to 2, no option to buy individually on the menu, and the price for 2 is now not far off what you used to be able to get 3 matching ones for.
Most disappointingly of all, the shredded chipotle chicken options (which were the most authentic chicken tacos and burritos I've had outside the States) have been replaced with boring fried chicken that you can get anywhere. The authentic tacos were what made Overdraft. The beers are good but the prices are nothing to write home about and there are competitors out there, especially in Southampton.
Times are tough and many places are tightening their belts, but to label what is ostensibly a price hike as a "new menu" while also reducing the quality of some of the food on the menu is hugely disappointing to see, especially when you throw a whole...
Read moreI was in Winchester Tuesday lunchtime and thought I would try the beer flight and 2-4-1 Tacos Tuesday advertised on line to end of 2022. However, the 2-4-1 Tacos has been replaced by 25% as advertised on blackboards outside venue. Nonetheless, I ventured to try the beer flight IPA and albeit a bit pricey as beers go, it was a good tasting experience. Just watch as they are a bit high in % ABV so glad it’s a train journey back home. I had the Brisket mac n cheese and it was excellent. Very cheesy, and the brisket was so tender and accompanied with chillies, coriander and spring onions. As mac cheese is my death row meal this is one is a good one! The place was quiet at lunchtime and the server talked me through the beers basically as ipa or lagers. The boards could have done with a bit more description or a tasting note flier for the flight as done in Belgium. All in all it was a good experience and next time I will know what to expect rather than have my expectancy lowered by change. So I would expect a 5...
