Pilot Boat — Restaurant in Wirral

First visit to The Pilot Boat with the family this evening. We walked in to a warm welcome from the friendly bartender and smiles from the customers near the bar, presumably regular locals. It’s a smaller pub restaurant than most but still feels very spacious and comfortable with vintage wooden fixtures and a touch of tasteful modern upholstery. An excellent touch was the provision of activity sheets and crayons for children. My learning disabled brother loved this. The food arrived prompt, hot and beautifully presented. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals with particular highlights being the homemade chunky chips and the vegan sausage and mash… absolutely delicious! We were told there are some recent changes with the menu but all in all, a good selection of classic pub fare with several inspired options. It would be fantastic to see a vegan dessert included in future, this would complement the excellent vegan mains perfectly. We met chef Danny and it was very clear just how conscientious and dedicated he is and how important customer satisfaction is to him. We all agreed, he should be very proud of what he’s producing at The Pilot Boat. Equally, the level of service from the lovely Lewis was much appreciated and together they made our experience just wonderful and one we intend to repeat again soon....

I played a game of poker here, very 1st hand I get delt pocket aces, I raise the whole table folds, but the guy who was going to deal the next hand looked at my mucked cards instead of adding them to the deck and shuffling, IN A GAME OF POKER THATS LIKE GOING THROUGH SOMEONES TRASH BINS AND DOING i.d FRAUD ON THEM, THE GUY GAINED INFORMATION THAT HE DID NOT PAY TO SEE HE DISRESPECTED ME AND THE RULES OF THE GAME , a lot of poker is putting the seed of dought in the other players heads, this guy cheated and gained info from cards he shouldn't have seen, he then jumps up throwing the chips everywhere kicking off wanting to fight me outside, all the staff did was move him away, disgusting there was a lot of children there as well, he knows what he did was wrong I seen the biggest glee smile on his face when i pulled him up on it 100%, all I wanted was a chilled game of poker and a phew beers, they won't do anything about the cheat or his conduct because he is a regular customer angry and sad now thanks. you wanted a fight but you do not want to fight? make up your mind you...

Went for a Sunday lunch. Not been here for food for about 4 years and so was keen to see if it had improved, although I'd heard it had. The pub was very busy, many people eating (always a good sign), plenty of staff as well, and they were all polite, smiley and eager to help.

The food was excellent. £7 .95 for just the roast, £11.95 for 2 courses and £14.95 for 3 courses. We had the 3 course meal. Salt and pepper wings to start were very tasty, and my friend had prawn cocktail which was served on 2 large lettuce leaves. She really enjoyed it. We both had lamb for mains and it was excellent. We had a gravy boat and asked for more which was brought to us without any problem, or extra charge. Decent portion as well. All the veg was buttered and cooked perfectly. Sticky toffee cake with custard to finish. Custard was served in a separate jug which I liked but better still, the dessert was presented beautifully with some strawberry and blueberries, plenty of sauce, and a dusting of icing sugar.
