The Magazine Hotel — Restaurant in Wirral

First experience: Great place. Loads of character. Great selection of well managed ales. Friendly bar staff. Food very very good with monster fish and chips and now a really good tapas offering. Place is dog friendly too and as its just off the prom it is a great watering hole after, during or before a walk. The sort of place I would dream of being snowed in at 🙂

Second experience (oh dear): Went tonight and problems. Their system went wrong and our order for 2 large fish and chips wasnt placed until we chased them up half an hour later. Next the delivered food was not the large by any means. When queried we got a rather frosty guy say he would go and check but he didnt come back. Instead a your member of staff was sent to refund us (guy didnt have the decency to come back to appoligise or make good). We declined the refund and after eating the small but very good fish and chips we left. Ok it was crazy busy in there tonight but not a great experience and handling problems well is the hallmark of good management and this was not handled well. Kind of dulls the interest in...

Wow, those chips!!

Lovely chilled atmosphere, staff were absolutely lovely and the waitress was so sweet!

I ordered the gammon which was delicious, this came with garden peas in a separate small pot and home cooked chips, now the chips were just something else, they were slightly crisp on the outside but they melted in your mouth. I can't remember the last time I had chips as nice as these!

I then ordered a sticky toffee pudding for dessert which to my surprise came with fruit on top, 2 blueberries, a raspberry and a physalis! I haven't had physalis for ages because not many shops sell them so I was thrilled and said "oh I LOVE physalis!" So the lovely waitress brought me an extra one out! I think we will definitely...

The Magazine Hotel known as The Mags by locals is a rare find. A traditional pub with excellent service, beer, drinks and food. A raised beer garden has views of the River Mersey, with plenty of seating. The staff are efficient, friendly and pros. A wide selection of food is on offer, including small plates, pastas and pub favourites fish n chips. We chose scampi & chips and the fish n chips. Freshly prepared and delicious.
