Booked a table for 10 for a family birthday in the snug l was assured that the tables would be moved together. When we arrived at 4pm the tables had not been moved. My Son went to the bar to place his order and returned to the table .My two other sons went to order their meals and were told that the snug area was table service and to return to their table and a waitress would take our orders. After 20 minutes and asking twice at the bar the waitress appeared and our orders were taken. 10 minutes later my sons order (who ordered at the bar) turned up.No cutlery was brought with the 4 meals so we asked for this and after about 6 minutes the waitress returned with Just four sets despite us needing a further 4 sets .Condiments were not on the tables so yet again this was requested which took a further five minutes .After a twenty minute wait for the other table service meals to appear my other two sons went to the bar and were told that the meals would be ready soon.We arrived at 4pm it was now 4.50pm so l approached the bar and asked to speak to the manager .The manager was serving drinks so l was told to return to the snug and she would be over shortly. The manager appeared and asked what was the problem ! My eldest son informed her of the shambolic service , and it appeared that preference was being given to drinker rather than focusing on food orders. The managers reply was that she had only started her shift at 4pm ( which was the time we arrived) and was not aware as to what had happened, surely before approaching us she should have asked her staff what the situation was? My son who had ordered at the bar told her the situation and was abruptly told that he should not have placed his food order at the bar but waited for table service !!! The attitude was appalling. The time was now 5.10 ,one hour since we placed our table service orders .The manager offered to give us our meals free of charge ,l asked were they ready and was informed that it would be approximately another 15 minutes !! Needless to say we left ! Absolutely dreadful service and the managers attitude was...
Read moreI have been told quite a few times to try the Jug & Bottle for a great Sunday roast. Let me tell you I was not disappointed. We had booked for a table of 4. Booking is a must!! We stepped through the door and you could gauge that the place is busy with a lot of people at the bar area and a great friendly atmosphere. We waited at the desk and where promptly shown to our table by a front of house member. We ordered a bottle of house red a pint of Moretti and a large Pitcher of water. The drinks took a little longer to arrive than expected but the bar was very busy so that was a factor. All 4 of us ordered the beef topside roast. The food arrived in a timely fashion and Wow!! Everything looked great and appealing to the eye on the plate. The beef was cooked to perfection, the vegetables still with a crunch, mash nicely smoothed and roast potatoes crispy on the outside and beautifully soft on the inside, chipolatas bursting with flavour! The seperate dish of vegetables comes with cauliflower cheese, broccoli and a small amount of carrot and swede. The gravy was also glossy and a nice rich flavour. We all could not fault anything. All cooked fresh, no frozen food in this establishment!! So then it was dessert time. Another bottle of house red ordered too. So I chose the Lemon Meringue cheesecake, oh what a great choice thst was. I have had many cheesecakes and believe me this was up there with the best of them! Full of flavour, looks great on the plate and well executed. To finish off it was all reasonably priced and good value for that level of food quality. All the staff where friendly with big smiles. I will recommend to others and will return...
Read moreWe just moved locally and decided to try out the Jug and Bottle for a change. We were really impressed, the food was divine and our waiter Euan was so friendly and polite. We immediately booked for a family occasion, when we had relatives visiting from Swansea. This time our experience was the opposite end of the scale. Our waitress was so rude- didn't get her name, short dark hair- the minute we sat down (on time) she asked where the rest of our party were, I said they were on their way and wouldn't be long. She then asked how long they would be, I said I don't know. She said again well will they be long because we need the table back. We had literally just sat down on time for our booking. I again said I don't know, I could try calling them. She stayed stood by the table waiting for me to call them, then asked if I could order for them. I was annoyed at this point- our booking was for 1pm and it wasn't even 10 past by this point, but I'd been asked repeatedly where the other 2 where, if I could call them and what they wanted to eat. I'm afraid I was very abrupt at this point and said I don't know what to tell you because the whole situation was ridiculous. The last 2 of our party of 6 arrived then and we ordered straight away because we didn't dare let them peruse the menu! After our previous lovely meals, this one was a let down. The roast potatoes were awful and it just wasn't to the same standard. We haven't been back since, taking our custom to the Devon Doorway, The Manor and the Fox and...
