The wetherspoons itself was similar to the 20 other spoons I had visited. Tables were clean, enough staff behind the bar and the food looked good. We arrived at around 6pm to meet my partner for food and drinks. It was my 39th birthday. We had shots and fries to share whilst we waited. After a few shots my friend was refused alcohol but was allowed to order food. I completely understand this, I deal with public liability as part of job and none of us kicked up a fuss. My partner then arrived about 10 mins later completely sober. We order a steak with no drink for myself and a burger and a beer for him. She advised me "once the drunk people had gone he can have a beer." They had already ordered their food and live a good hour away by public transport so we wanted to travel together so this was not possible. We did explain this to manager but she declined, even if he sat on a separate table and did not talk to us. I have never been refused alcohol in all my years of going out. The beer was clearly for the sober person and rest of us each had drink still on the table. If he had wanted a beer and shots this would have been understandable. I really wish the manager had put a bit more consideration but she seemed drunk on the power.
