After enjoying an amazing experience 2 years ago at Sugo's sister restaurant, I was excited to revisit (at the Lamb and Flag) after raving to numerous people about how good the food was. Unfortunately I was bitterly disappointed and somewhat embarrassed that I made the journey with a friend ensuring them how good the food was. The starters were average at best. Calamari friti had soggy batter (a schoolboy error) ... the antipasto board had 2 tiny bruchettas to accompany an average set of cured meats ... the burrata was not the best. The main meals were the biggest disappointment as the gnocchi was so dense and bland, that it was a struggle to finnish half of it and the watery sauce and squid were lost due to the lack of balance and seasoning (a very bad rendition of gnocchi al nero di seppia) The risotto was the better of the 2 main meals, but was saturated with oil and was a greasy mess...the truffle flavour overpowered everyhing else. Even the side of chips were like badly cooked Mcain oven chips. The deserts were the best from the 3 courses (the cheesecake was lovely) the tiramisu was decent but half frozen. For a meal for 2 that costs £90 (plus 2 soft drinks), I would expect the food to be to a very good standard ... but unfortunately I have had far better food at Italian chain restaurants (which I try to avoid) and establishments that would be regarded as middle of the road .... all in all it was very disappointing as Sugo has such a good reputation. Maybe it's finding it's feet again after Covid but Unfortunately I will not be revisiting as it was below par food at pretentious prices. All in all not a pleasant experience and a wasted journey and wasted money. Hopefully they take note and adhere to the...
Read moreLovely atmosphere in the upstairs restaurant. Delicious food. The fish platter was especially good and was plenty for 3 of us. The house wine was excellent and the waiting staff were attentive.
In the summer, there's an outdoor seating area and terrace accessible from both ground and first floors.
Unfortunately, the upstairs is very difficult to access if you have difficulty walking or seeing. The banister doesn't go all the way up and the interior staircase is narrow, steep and awkward at the top. No problem at all for me, but my elderly relative found it very challenging. I don't know if the exterior stairs are better in the summer.
I'll definitely visit again as the food was so tasty and the location is...
Read moreTried the vegan restaurant upstairs Resishi, I'm not vegan but I was stunned by how good the food was. The staff were absolute stars also, we had such a wonderful evening. The only down side was the bar staff downstairs refusing to make cocktails saying the ice machine was broken. But I ordered 4 different fruit juices and some rum to make a rum punch, which wasn't hard to do. Every time I visit the down stairs pub thru are moody so I don't get surprised, a stark contrast to the vibe upstairs! I will deffo visit again for the food! Maybe upstairs should train the downstairs guys on customer service lol cannot praise the restaurant enough,...
