Allergies beware! Ordered chicken but it tasted strongly of prawn/ fish and the owner insulted us when we queried it! The service was slow- took 30 mins to take out order and then 40 mins for the starter to arrive. The starters were fine. However, the main course, (we were given the incorrect mains at first), which was supposed to be chicken in white wine sauce with vegetables and rice, tasted overwhelmingly of fish/prawns and was dripping in an orange oily sauce. (Fish and prawns disgust me- and my father is highly allergic to it- had he had this dish it would have made him very, very ill) Initially I thought it was the sour cream making it taste fishy- so I stopped using it, and then went to taste some sweetcorn. It was so disgusting- being very oily and tasting strongly of fish rather than sweetcorn, that I was nearly sick and had to discreetly spit it into my napkin. At this point I asked my husband to taste it and he agreed it tasted incredibly fishy. We told the waitress who took it away and the owner (who didn't introduce herself or explain who she was) asked us if we would like something else. The trouble was that I felt so sick as I never eat prawn or fish that I couldn't face eating anything else and I didn't trust what I might get either. So I politely declined. I asked the owner to try the food as she refused to acknowledge that it was fishy. The owner began arguing with us about whether it tasted of fish or not and basically called us liars. (which we are not- we are both working professionals who don't normally get any trouble when eating out) She was rude, passive aggressive and interrupted me, raised her voice and refused to admit that the food wasn't right. There were only 2 other customers in there (Saturday night- maybe that should have told us something?) and she asked them to shout across and tell us how their food was! How inappropriate! She is also English so it wasn't that there was a culture difference which caused a misunderstanding. She also refused to take the cost of the (Disgusting) uneaten dish off the bill. I told her I'd never been so insulted and she just didn't care; She Just kept insisting black was white, if you now what I mean. Eventually she took the one dish off the bill after we told her we would not pay for that item. My husband has also come home feeling unwell after eating there. We will never eat there again and would be concerned for people who are vegetarian, vegan or have allergies as our food (chicken & vegetables) definitely tasted strongly of fish/prawns. (p.s If you look at my other reviews you will see that I usually leave 5 star reviews-I've never left a one star...
Read moreHonestly a bit odd. Cash only, which is especially irksome when you’re divvying up the bill amongst a large party. I ordered a vegetarian chilli burrito. Not a particularly hard thing to do right, especially as Mexican food lends itself well to vegetarian options. The first thing I noticed, aside from the lack of any beans or rice in the burrito (thus negating the chilli, or indeed the burrito part) was there were carrots in it. I’ve been in mexican restaurants where they’ve served carrot. Pickled and thinly sliced as part of a garnish or side salad though. After this I even googled whether I was just being an uncultured hick, but nope this just doesn’t seem to be a thing. Especially in this case, as it looked and tasted like tinned baby carrots. Mixed in with equally mushy normally sliced carrots. Oh and peas, you can’t forget the peas. All of this slathered in some kind of mystery tomato sauce that was only on nodding acquaintances with actual chilli sauce. This cost around £12.50, which was faintly ridiculous given a competently made butrito costs a pound or two less in La Choza, down the road in Brighton. Avoid,...
Read moreWas welcomed by a friendly helpful waitress which was the only positive experience. I ordered the full rack of ribs and my wife chicken fajitas( after 15 minutes of waiting she was told they had no peppers to stuff). The ribs were full of fat (see picture). It advertised homemade coleslaw but tasted like cheap vinegary coleslaw bought from a supermarket. When I asked she said it was homemade so was hard to make it taste so cheap. The guacamole also tasted like a cheap version from the supermarket. We explained to the waitress our complaints. She apologised several times. When payment came a different server came so we assumed there would be another apology and even a reduction. There was nothing. The place was also very cold so we both keep our coats on. Such a shame. Never posted such a negative review. Hope they...
