4th September 2021: What a fantastic pub restaurant just above the canal immediately after "Lower Mitton Bridge No.5" upon leaving Stourport on Severn basin onto the Staffs and Worcester canal. Popped over here with a boater friend from Diglis Basin in Worcester as I had seen this pub whilst walking along the canal towpath on one of my photographic exploratory walks. Lovely outdoors seating area with big tables and umbrellas and overlooking the canal below. The chips we ordered were so delicious and chunky and the real cask ales were superb with my Butty Bach on tap as it turned out...perfect. The house Chardonnay was exceptional too. A fantastic selection of proper pub snacks, scotch eggs, duck eggs, black pudding and freshly made sandwiches all there at the bar counter along with a fantastic selection of true cask ales on tap as well. Wow, we spent the glorious sunny afternoon here....how could we not?! Tom the lad serving at the bar was a charming character, ever so friendly, welcoming and cheerful and nothing deterred him from his smiling jovial demeanour with a full house of punters waiting to get their orders in at his bar counter... A BIG SHOUT OUT and HUGE THANK YOU to TOM and the REST OF the other STAFF serving outside too....WELL DONE YOU ALL!!! (Maybe I should have a word with the owners to give you all a bonus or raise, oops...) The food selection on the menu looked amazing and pity we weren't around to pop over for an evening meal as we had to chug on to the Staffs and Worcester canal early the next morning. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PUB RESTAURANT HIGHLY, fantastic food, drinks and true proper real cask ales.. Gorgeous location and buildings and apparently the Black Star has it's own chapel for venues and other functions..weddings, parties etc. but please do check with the staff and owners as i was told about it! Thanks Black Star for a most wonderful and amazing...
Read moreVoted best pub, and they are right, big time! Love the place and a footnote: congratulations on your festive lights, they are fantastic. You've certainly Cheered up Stourport and not forgetting that beautiful red ribbon. Just STUNNING!!!!! Update yesterday 15 April, love the new sign. That's stunning as well! And I loved the beautiful bow and around the front of the pub, especially for the Kings Coronation. As you can guess, I'm a great believer in the monarchy, so congratulations on that one. Turning out to be a bit of a novel, isn't it? See you again soon! And we are back!!! Nigel and Lee, today, as I'm typing it now, Thursday 8 June this afternoon and evening! Fabulous staff and just the best!!! From Nigel and Lee with love x❤️.

Read moreA day to remember. We had summers' day cruise on the canal of Stourport-on-Severn yesterday, 21 July 2024. A stop at the Black Star for lunch punctuated a lovely day on a canal boat trip. Our wonderful and generous friends gave us a treat on a houseboat cruise and a pub lunch. Now I have seen the operation of a lock, I realise the care one has to take to be safe cruising the canals in the UK. The boat we were in, is almost the length of the Stourport-on-Severn canal lock. If the boat were to hit the streaming water falling off the back wall, it would quickly fill up before you can get out as the walls are steep, 12 meters deep. I was told. We had a couple of exciting moments. First the captain of our boat saved a notebook from the dark waters of the canal just in the nick of time. Then as our captain was releasing the lock, we saw a little girl in a frilly, fairy-like frock, without a life-jacket, one of two girls of the family of the boat just before us floated momentarily on the surface of the dark water of the lock! Everyone froze. Then quick as a flash our captain dipped his left hand, which was nearest to the little girl's left hand, and lifted her out of the water! Sorry, I had my camera ready but I had frozen too. We had Earl Grey tea with a slice of lemon and an event-free trip back. A must re-visit reminder. Beautiful country, with peace loving people and...
