I recently visited Ocean palace restaurant and unfortunately, my dining experience left much to be desired. From start to finish, the meal seemed to be plagued by various issues that ultimately made it a forgettable experience.
Upon walking in, the lack of customers should have been a red flag, indicating that something might be amiss. My first disappointment came in the form of oversteeped tea, a simple detail that sets the tone for the meal ahead.
Opting for the barbecue pork as my appetizer, I was let down by the meager portion size in comparison to the price. The real downfall, however, was when my main course arrived. While the presentation was decent, the breaded shrimp failed to impress as it was undercooked, leaving raw tempura inside. The almond chicken's sauce resembled a poorly made gravy, and though the chicken itself was decent, it couldn't salvage the dish.
Even the fortune cookie, a seemingly fail-safe ending, was a letdown with its soggy texture. I must admit that the server was the only bright spot in this otherwise lackluster experience. Her humor and graciousness did add a positive touch to an otherwise disappointing meal.
In terms of ambiance, the restaurant could benefit from a refresh, although it does boast some beautiful decor worth admiring.
In conclusion, my visit to ocean Palace restaurant was marred by subpar food quality and lackluster execution. While the service was commendable, it wasn't enough to salvage the overall experience. I hope that the restaurant can address these issues and improve to provide a more enjoyable dining experience for...
Read moreBeen coming here since I was a kid, back when it was the OG Golden Dragon down the street.
For those who want to get a little taste of everything, you can't ever go wrong with their combo plates. My personal favorite is anything with the chow mein which is always hot, fresh, crisp veg (try the sub gum); fried shrimp is yum (puffy and crispy); anything with their sweet and sour sauce (dayglow red, and perfectly sweet, with that nice sour back end - yum); and, the rice always comes with a BBQ pork topper, which is delish.
If you're into individual dishes, they have a large menu with all the meats, seafood, and vegetarian, as well as family style dinners, and daily specials. I've tried so many dishes over the years, some of my favorites are Szechuan Shrimp and Mongolian beef. Also love the appetizers like BBQ pork, the cream cheese wontons, and their egg rolls are fantastic.
Always one of my favorite spots to hit up first when I'm home, the food hits the spot, and the service is the best you'll find anywhere! Christina and her family are amazing people who provide consistently delicious food, and are always happy to see you; it's like coming...
Read moreThis place is hit and miss. The first time I ate there the curried chicken was really good as was the chop suey. The next time I ordered it. There was barely any sauce in the curry chicken and the rice was so overcooked it was so mushy I couldn't eat it. The chop suey was overcooked as well there was no crunch to the vegetables, I get these orders to go so I could not complain I didn't want to call back. The next time I ordered to go I told her about the previous problems so she made sure there was plenty of sauce on the curry chicken and I told her I wanted her to taste test the rice and make sure it wasn't overcooked before I would order it lol. And she did. So I decided to go ahead and give three stars. (Reduced to two stars see edit) I would give more stars if you could get consistently good food here but that's not the case.
EDIT: it there again recently to try one more time and their cook has no clue what he's doing. The chicken is completely dry and they must only make rice every couple days. Because this time it was hard and dry like it have been put in the fridge overnight. I think I'm done giving this...
