This may have been one of the worst experiences my family has ever had at a restaurant, ever. And I am not being hyperbolic.
My wife, two boys, myself, and other members of my local Synagogue went to eat there last night for dinner after services. I should have known it was going to be a bad time when we walked into a front house filled with boys running around, throwing balls they had gotten out of the vending machines at the front of the restaurant, etc.
Once we were seated it was 20 minutes before anyone even came to the table to take a drink order. And that might have only been because at 10 minutes I went to the front to ask for a server. When our server came there was no apology or anything. But that wasn't the worst part of the night.
A baseball team from New York, the RCBC Ghosts 11U, were in town from Staten Island to play at Ironbirds stadium this weekend. They were the absolute most unbehaved, monstruous kids I've ever seen. They were supposed to be in a banquet-style room together with doors. Instead, these boys were out in the main area running around, throwing balls back and forth, and when I say climbing ON AND OVER tables and benches and nearly banging into our group several times, I am not exaggerating. There was another table of a younger couple trying to ignore them and enjoy dinner but these kids were very near terrorizing them banging against the back of the booths they were sitting at and throwing their rubber balls over them. How they didn't get up mid-meal and just leave is beyond me. WE almost did. The team's coaches and parents not only did nothing about this the whole night, but got indignant with US for complaining about it. And of course they did, toward the end of their visit to The Green Turtle one of the parent "chaperones" (I use this term lightly) BROUGHT A DOG INTO THE RESTAURANT and was just walking around with it, right near our table.
The worst part bringing it back to The Green Turtle is that management did NOTHING to stop or control this. It did however affect the time it took for us to get served, get our food, etc. Once our server engaged us she did try her best so not all of our experience was on her. That's the only reason service gets 1 star and not 0. However when we complained about the above atmosphere to the manager on-duty, she only apologized and said "Oh I should have warned you ahead of time, this always happens around this time". This always happens??? You as a restaurant allow a room full of obnoxious and raucous youth baseball players to run wild in your establishment and terrorize the other patrons and your answer to this was simply "Sorry, we should have warned you?".
Needless to say my family, my Synagogue, will absolutely NEVER step foot in The Green Turtle in Aberdeen again. In fact, I am not sure at this point if we will ever go to any Green Turtle restaurant again. If I wanted to go to a children's playground, I would have taken my...
Read moreWe made a reservation last week for our entire baseball team. We walked into the restaurant and it was ridiculously hot. We all sat at our tables and everyone was complaining about how hot they were so I went over to the bartender to ask her if the air conditioning could be put on because it obviously wasnât on at all. She quickly told me that the air conditioner is broken. I remembered that we had been to the same restaurant two years ago with our team and the same thing happened where it was hot and we were told the air conditioning was broken. It seemed very coincidental that both times we were there the air conditioning was âbrokenâ so it just seems like the air-conditioning is not used to save money. Our boys and all of the parents had been sitting in the hot sun all day at baseball and the last thing we wanted was to continue to be hot while we were eating. We spent $1000 on our meals and it was beyond uncomfortable. Our poor waiter had a handheld fan that he was carrying around to cool himself off and had sweat stains on the back of his shirt , he was lovely and did the best job he could under the circumstances. The hostesses at the front were fanning themselves with menus. I definitely wanted to leave as soon as we got there but because we were such a large party, we wouldâve never gotten in anywhere else on such short notice. It is absolutely unbelievable to me that they donât run their air conditioners in this heat and that customers are paying money to sit in that. We will be back here for tournaments and I can guarantee you we will not be dropping $1000 in that restaurant again because it is disgusting and how dare you make your employees work under conditions like that. I saw another review on Yelp from the same night from another baseball team that had the same complaint. They however, were told that you havenât had air-conditioning in years. Which is obviously the truth. How unbelievably unacceptable and disappointing. You need to do better. The air conditioning is not broken. Your employees are just told to to say that. There must be some state violations here. Also, I emailed the general manager AND manager days ago and have gotten no response so I guess...
Read moreWe went on a Sunday evening and there was plenty of parking and no wait to be seated. This location has a small arcade like portion with a few games and claw prize machines. Despite it being pretty empty We were seated in the very back corner and no where near a television to see any sports/etc. The waitress did come fairly quickly to take drink/app orders once we were seated. They sell Pepsi products just as an FYI. Our party did order an alcoholic mixed drink, soda and water. The mixed drink tasted like pure vodka and grenadine syrup, we ended up asking for sprite to be added just to make it more drinkable. The water had a "well water" taste but otherwise was fine. We ordered a variety of food (burgers, tacos, wings, kids meal with Mac and cheese). Personally I had the burger and I'd give it about 3/5. It was hot when it came out vut the taste was mediocre and there is alot of bread compared to contents of burger. When my food arrived I was only given the burger and no fries and they said they wood come out later. The rest of the group (we were 4 adults one child) recieved their fries with their food. We also had to wait to start eating because we had no silverware. The kids meal mac looked good and the child seemed to enjoy it. The apple juice came in a small hard cup (no disposable) with a plastic lid and the lid fitted poorly which was an issue when the child was trying to drink and led to several spills. Probably about 10 minutes later the fries arrived and at least they were hot. Overall I'd say it was an average experience and would probably return at least one more time to see if the food/service would be...
