I spent $80 here and walked away feeling disappointed and frustrated. The customer service was barely there—the cashier vanished with my change during the rush. I guess that ended up as an automatic tip, but if I had the choice, I wouldn’t have left one based on the experience.
I placed a to-go order and asked specifically for a burrito with no sauce on top because my son has a sensory issue and won’t eat it otherwise. When I got home, I realized they had smothered it in sauce anyway—even though the ticket clearly said “no sauce.” That made it completely inedible for him.
The tamales were bland and dry. My daughter and I love chicken tamales, but honestly, the frozen ones from Wegmans have more flavor. For restaurant-quality, this was a letdown. My nephew’s quesadillas were also missing the sour cream and salsa we requested on the side.
My husband ordered street chicken tacos, which were priced at over $13—but they were made like basic $2 tacos. No cilantro, no onion, no lime, no corn tortillas like you’d expect. Just plain tacos on flour tortillas with very little effort. Definitely not worth the price.
While waiting, someone brought out only part of our order. I had to let them know we were missing items. It seemed disorganized, like they were bringing out food one entrée at a time instead of finishing whole tickets.
Bottom line: the food was mid, the service was poor, and the value wasn’t there. I’ve had better, more flavorful meals from local food trucks. I wish I had waited a day and gone to one instead. I don’t recommend this place unless you’re desperate for tacos and have no...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant many times, and always enjoyed it, and recommended it numerous times. After finally getting the opportunity to take my brother, I sadly can no longer recommend it. The service was terrible. I had to repeatedly get up and look for our waiter. We waited 20-25 minutes just for our drinks. It took almost an hour for our food to be brought out, and there were only three of us. Another 15 minutes for extra napkins (there was one with our utensils which included a broken straw.) The food had obviously been sitting for a while in the back, and was a bit dried out. I asked for there to be no sour cream on mine, and there was. I gave the food 2 stars because my nephew said his shrimp tacos were decent. Then, after waiting and looking for the waiter for 15-20 minutes so that we could get our check, we ultimately ended up just getting up and walking up to the counter. When we did this, we saw our waiter behind the bar mixing drinks. I should mention that this was during a weekday afternoon, and they were not busy at all. With only a couple of other people there, the experience should have been a lot better. And the music was so loud that we could barely hear each other. Now, because of this, not only does my brother have no interest whatsoever in ever going back, but I have no interest either. I'm happy to give positive reviews when I'm happy with a business, and I've given quite a few. If I'm not thrilled with a business, I normally will just move along. So for me to give a negative review, it says a lot. Do...
Read moreThis place is great but if I could have one complaint it would be that their pricing is not consistent. I am a creature of habit and if I like something I get it often. I've taken a likin to their chorizo dip.
Now there are three La Toltecas in close proximity to me and I've tried them all.
First they are independently owned so the prices are different in each restaurant.
Second I will order my chorizo dip with a side of onion and cilantro.
Depending on what day it is or who was actually checking me out depends on what I'm going to be charged that day. It will range anywhere from $6 and change to about $9 and change.
I would like that to be the case only when they are confused about whether or not they are going to charge me for the side of cilantro and onions, which they do about 1/8 of the time. Because if that were the case at least there would be some sense to it. There isn't. Regardless of whether or not they charge me for the onions or cilantro, my price for the dip itself will be different every time I'm there. And like I said there are three different restaurants in close proximity to me and they all charge differently from each other as well.
So bottom line great food but they all need to get on the same page with what they're going to charge every customer in each store...
