Update 5/8/24. I had to lower the stars if im being honest. Its okay but it's not great. I was shocked the last three times we went when they overcharged us for my 10 year old meal without even asking her age. And sure enough on the way out I saw the price should have been half what it was. I paid it and didn't say anything but we won't be back. I forgot last time that's why we didn't come back for so long.
Oh and they dont have the back wrapped jalapeños for the lunch buffet but they still charge nearly the same price as dinner. If not the same price. That and the green beans are my main if not only reason to go there.
I paid $44.33 plus a tip for 1 adult and 2 children under 13 and their two drinks. My children didn't even get a refill nor did we get offered a Togo cup for our drinks.
There are other very good restaurants in town that will get our business from now on. The food quality there isn't that great for the value this time either. The amount of breading on the chicken was crazy and what didnt have breading was very over cooked and tough.
It was decent but if I'm being honest I wouldn't give 5 stats for the last few visits over this year.
End update.
Previous review starts Herr. This is our second visit here. The first was during the ice storm 2023.
I hope the incredible food is consistent because it is dinner time right now but the food is absolutely delicious! Full of flavor and there is a large variety of food. I got a full plate of different varieties of foods and each thing I ate was absolutely delicious. I finished the entire plate. I completely forgot they have bacon wrapped jalapeños with cream cheese. They have a bunch of chicken dishes, spicy and mild. Their green beans are on point and full of flavor!!! And they have Boa too!!!!! Last time we came they made me a fresh batch too.
I'm honestly shocked that this place isn't packed with people.
The wait staff is keeping our table cleared and our drinks full. The chairs look almost brand new. The booth we are in has cushion and looks freshly upholstered!
I'm absolutely impressed, specially after the tragic visit last week at another establishment in Abilene.
We are definitely...
Read moreMany food choices, nice clean place. However customer service is lacking. 85 percent of the food was extremely cold. When I brought this up with the manager the excuses came, chked food with thermometer I guess temp didn't go well so he then mixed the food so new food mixed with old and then retested came back to the table saying temp was ok, waiter pick up my CC before manager even came to table, guess he thought he was not going to get paid the $48.00 that it cost me where our party didn't even eat $12.00 worth of food. Here is a tip don't chk food under heat lamps and test the food that was sitting out. Terrible experience don't recommend for this reason. Nee Ne maintain buffet with fresh a little bit more. Regardless the food was cold and the family across probably got food from different trays, and seriously you throw away most. Really most of the old food. None was thrown away while we were there just new food dump in with older food. Any more excuses? Food was cold. Some of trays only had just a bit food left in them so how long has it been there. And health Dept don't scan the food as was done. It's not like we sat there for hours talking we were in your place for approx 20 mins. So the AC didn't chill the food on table as u say. 3/28/2018 just FYI the owner did remove his rude comments and excuses from this post. But yes he is rude if you leave a bad review, and seems to be that he removed all remarks he made to customers for bad reviews, but deemed it ok to just keep the ones for any good reviews. But this does not erase the facts that he got bad reviews nor does it take away the fact he has lousy customer service skills, and is a rude and arrogant so called...

My most recent visit: Several fried items, including some chicken items and their spring rolls, were cold in the middle—like refrigerator cold. The fried rice tasted freezer burned, and after one bite, I could not eat it. At $12.99 a plate on Sunday (don't know if they are cheaper on weekdays), I expected better. After eating here maybe a dozen or more times, I will not be coming back.
Original review (3 stars): Decent place. Not cheap, but I wouldn't expect a buffet to be cheap anymore. They have lots of items to choose from, including a Mongolian barbecue and several different iterations of sushi. My daughter always gets a headache after eating here, which makes me think they are free-handed with the MSG, but that is just my deduction.
I've been to China and had an amazing food experience there. 95%+ of the Chinese food places in the US don't even attempt authenticity (including this place). I do realize that is the norm here, but I just can't give high ratings at a Chinese restaurant unless it is truly outstanding.
Golden Chopsticks is typical Chinese buffet. You know what those are like. They do have a wide variety of choices. For what it is, they do a pretty good job, and it is probably my favorite Chinese...
