My family has gone to Pizza Box in Glenside for years. It is our favorite spot, and we don't often feel the need to go anywhere else. As a resident on North Tyson, It's not too far, but I was limited on time recently, and decided to try the "new" place up the street, Renatos. I had read some good reviews, and it's literally a 10 minute walk, or a 90 second drive, so I decided to try it.
I used the online order system to order a large pizza and a chicken breast sandwich, two very basic items. My assessment of the food is as follows- Pizza- I would describe the pizza as "fine", or "average". It's certainly not bad, but there is nothing distinctive about it.
Chicken sandwich- The chicken was dry and unseasoned. They did slather it in a very sweet bbq sauce which was a bit too much. And then they put some very fatty, wobbly bacon on it. After only a 90 second travel time home, the buns were soaked through with bbq sauce making it impossible to pick up and eat.
Overall, I would say the food was about a C+/B- range.
The most disappointing part of the transaction however was the slowness of the order. I used the online system which gave me a specific pick up window. I always allow a little bit of extra time, so I arrive well in to the pick up window. When I got in, there were 4 employees standing around, leaning on the counters on their phones. I did not see anything cooking or being prepared, so I thought maybe they just opened. I told them my name and that I was there for a pick up order. They looked at me confused, before huddling over an iPad. It was obviously a surprise to them to see an order. One of the men came over to me and said "it will just be a few more minutes", clearly trying to cover for the fact that they had not even started my order. I watched as they pulled out ingredients to start making it. When they opened the pizza over, I saw that there was nothing else cooking, so clearly, they just plain old dropped the ball on my order.
Having worked in a restaurant, I understand these things happen. What I didn't appreciate was the lack of accountability or acknowledgement, and the attempt to act as though the order was "almost" done. When they finally finished, about 25 minutes later than the original pick up time, they still did not acknowledge their error. I didn't say anything, I just went home as my family had been waiting on me to return with lunch.
Again, the food was "Fine". Nothing bad, but nothing special. Given their unreliability, it would have actually been faster to drive the 3 miles to my normal place. I would have been home quicker, with better food and service.
Renatos might be worth returning to at some point, but probably not needed given the far better...
Read moreDoubt i will go here again. Order took over an hour and they forgot all the side items. Tried to call back to get a refund for the items and no one answers the phone. Cheesesteak was just ok, but the fries were pure sog. When I finally got through on the phone the girl tried to argue that I didn’t order the items even though she repeated them back to me! To be fair I could hear the owner in the background saying he would send the items but by the time someone answered the phone it was well over an hour after the delivery. Very disappointed that this happened as I like to support local business.
In response to the owner: I understand you tried to work it out by sending the items afterwards or a credit but at the point it was well over an hour and a half after the initial food was delivered and I was simply asking for the money for the items not received to be put back on my card. I very nicely called to let you know the items were not received and instead of an apology for the items missing your daughter argued that I never ordered the items to begin - saying I never ordered them and that she read the entire order back to me (with the items) - yes I am going to make sure I wasn’t charged for them. I’m not really sure what else you expected me to do in this situation. Best of...
Read moreGood slice of pizza, but not good experience. My 5 year old and I have a tradition of every 2 weeks after school pickup to dine in and get ourselves pizza. 😋 After trying to convince my child to try this fairly new pizzeria he finally said yes. 👍 After ordering 2 slices, the 2 workers in the kitchen were arguing very loudly, to a point where I thought they were gonna fight! 😳 none of the kitchen workers would back down. This took at least 10 to 15 minutes maybe more. We could hear and see everything. I am very fluent in spanish so I understood everything. All I could think of, if they start to fight, I need to protect my son and get him out ASAP. The good thing is my child did not notice anything. However there was another customer waiting for a long time and witness everything. The lack of self control with 2 individuals was very sad to see. Unfortunately, we will not be dining there any time soon. This might be a one time incident, but it happened on my and...
