The Village Diner — Restaurant in Abington Township

Today, I came to The Village Diner, and let me just say that I am truly disappointed in the customer service. I have visited a few times and the time I have gone, it truly has been a pleasant experience with the older staff. I don’t know what was up with the staff today, but I noticed that it was a younger staff. My friend and I came in and no one said good morning, hello, or even acknowledged that we had come in. We waited a good 15-20 minutes as people were walking out. My friend went up to one of the workers and asked, “How much longer do we have to wait?” One girl whispered they had tables available. I am truly disappointed in the service, behaviors, and attitudes displayed today. So, we left, and gladly gave our business to another restaurant where we were welcomed and sat right away. Delicious, hometown, diner food. Not a large seating area, and it is a popular destination, at least on a late, lazy, rainy, Sunday morning. It took about 20 minutes for my daughter and I to get seated, food was prepared within 15 minutes or so. The food came out exactly as ordered and tasted great. Waitress was present but not overbearing. The coffee (and I'll admit I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to coffee, roasting my own beans to perfection and grinding them after just 24-48hrs) was actually pretty good. The bathroom left a little to be desired. I can appreciate the need for a small footprint in a tight space and be understanding, but the toilet paper dispenser was broken and the roll that was just left hanging there had easily identifiable brown stains/smears. Took my 12 year old niece on a Sunday morning. She got the chocolate chip pancakes, which were yummy! I got the Rueben, which was yummy and the meat had no fat on it at all! It could have been a bit more grilled and it needed more Russian dressing (had very little). My server was friendly and sweet. I wish I could remember her name! However, if we needed anything else, the other servers pointedly ignored me, even when they could hear me. They're mostly young women who look like they can't wait to leave and had no hustle. I was a server at 16 and I had hustle! It's the job, so do it! However, our server was really sweet. We did wait a long time to get our check, though we were obvioiusly done with our meal.
