Went in after work at 430 in the afternoon, had whole place to myself.
Atmosphere isn't too much different from the original country buffet that was there prior to it changing to an Indian restaurant. Was hoping for some Indian decor and flair. There was a TV with audio on in the background. Some Indian film possibly. Didn't ruin the atmosphere. It was late lunch early dinner time anyways so I wouldn't expect it to be on during busy hours.
Waitress was attentive, perhaps a bit too attentive due to me being the only customer inside. Would be nice if she came by a little bit less frequently. Kind person, though.
Food was quite nice. Gobi 65 on a medium spice level was very nostalgic for me. It reminded me of the food I used to have when I was younger. Typically cashews are not used in this dish but the contrast of soft batter and crunch of the cauliflower stem and cashew was quite lovely.
Also had a chicken dish, I forget which one as I type this. I think it started with a K. Anyways, that was nice as well. A bit too spicy for me but then again I'm not one to argue about that. Maybe I should save spicier food for the cooler months here in north Georgia. The sauce was aromatic and was great to dip my butter Naan in. Ordered a mango Lassi but while Lassi are generally cold, this one felt just below room temperature. Not good as the purpose of it is to help cool down my mouth, acting as a palate cleanser. The taste of it was good, it just needs to be cold.
I had a diet coke and water. They don't have a tap or ice at least I didn't receive, so I had to pay 2 dollars for an Aquafina bottle. Kind of weird.
Overall good experience. Definitely might consider takeout in the future as the atmosphere is lacking, especially if you dine alone. Taj Mahal Grill over in Kennesaw hands down is the only Indian restaurant near this place worth dining in, at least of the places I have been to.
Note* They didn't have tap/ice water for me, not sure if they have it for anyone but was sad to pay 2 dollars for water. Also you need to bring cash for tip out. For some reason when I closed out there is no card tip option. I'm having to drive back over there next week to tip out with cash.
Take out preferred, dine in seldom if you dont...
Read moreCan't recommend Daddy's Indian enough! When we weren't sure what direction to go for an appetizer, we were recommended the Apollo Fish. It's not a dish I was familiar with but something told me to just go with it, and I'm so glad I did. It is now one of my favorite dishes! Get the Apollo Fish! I knew I wanted the chicken vindalo for main going in, and it did not disappoint. Got the main course with garlic naan and paratha for bread, both of which were some of the best I've ever had. The wait staff went out of their way to make sure everything was to our liking and that we were satisfied. It made me laugh a little to eat such authentic southern Indian cuisine basking in the remaining decor from when this space housed a southern AMERICAN eatery, but it's tough out here for mom & pop restaurants and I certainly can't fault the staff for putting the money in what truly matters: the incredible, incredible food. If that's really going to impact your enjoyment of such excellent cuisine, just get takeout. I can't wait to come back and eat my way through their menu (though I will always be getting the Apollo Fish!)
And speaking of the old decor, I really don't get all the negative reviews based entirely on what this restaurant ISN'T anymore. Daddy's Country Kitchen closed. It sucks, but it did. Someone new bought the space. The name of the restaurant on Google is Daddy's INDIAN cuisine. They have MULTIPLE signs outside clearly stating that it is now Daddy's INDIAN restaurant. There is absolutely no excuse to be surprised by the change. Restaurants close. New restaurants appear in their places. It happens all the time. No one is hiding that the new restaurant in this space is an Indian restaurant. It could not be more clear. I'm sorry your favorite country kitchen closed, truly I am no one likes losing a favorite spot, but that happened regardless of the restaurant that's here now. If you don't want Indian food just don't eat here. Leaving a 1-star review for a young small business because it's not the thing you want that doesn't exist anymore is just childish and...
Read moreThere’s never a time that I go to Daddy’s and leave not feeling full and happy. I go here as often as possible, but mostly every Wednesday for their chicken and dumplings. My partner is in LOVE with their potato salad too. The food is almost always fresh and if it’s not then it’s probably about to be because they don’t leave stuff sitting in the bar for long periods without maintaining the freshness. They stay up to standard by supplying gloves and hand sanitizers as well.
The food is simple, tasty, fresh, and feels warm just like a southern home cooked meal would. The pineapple cobbler is a MUST TRY! Like, I never thought of making a pineapple cobbler until I tried theirs. It’s so good. I will say depending on who is cooking or prepping changes the way some of the dishes are at time. For instance, the potato salad is sometimes chunkier with more mayo base on some days whereas on others it’s more finely chopped with mustard base. Both are good, but are things my partner and I have noticed about the food. Some days they do shell Mac n cheese bake and others it’s regular macaroni pasta baked. Regardless of how it’s prepared, it still always hits the spot.
The staff has always been so nice, helpful, attentive, and good spirited. They care about their customers and regulars dearly. Most of the time this place gets packed for dinner. It’s an older crowd this the restaurant has been around for awhile. I’m in my 20’s and love it though. The pricing is modest and for a small business I’ll gladly pay the extra fee since covid bumped it some. They deserve that.
Anyway, summary, the food is fresh and homey. The sweet tea is divine. The staff is fabulous and always has been. And the ambience is quirky and country. 10/10 recommend if you like places where you serve yourself for the most part.
